#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost_ . . . Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck a Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea with drones for a fourth time in recent weeks, a source in the agency said on Dec. 19.

The SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center’s drones hit an oil rig run by Russian oil giant Lukoil, the source said.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the SBU’s claim.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have downed seven Ukrainian drones over the Caspian Sea overnight on Dec 19, but has not commented on Ukraine hitting the oil platform. Both sides rarely admit their setbacks in the war.

“The SBU continues to systematically reduce oil dollar revenues to the Russian war budget,” the Security Service source told the Kyiv Independent.

“All facilities that provide funding for the aggression against Ukraine are absolutely legitimate targets.”

The SBU previously carried out drone strikes on oil platforms at the Filanovsky and Korchagin fields on the Caspian Sea on Dec. 11, Dec. 12, and Dec. 15 respectively.

#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost_ . . . Ukraine’s Security Service said its underwater drones hit a Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk on Dec. 15, the first such attack it has reported, knocking the vessel out of service.

The attack used Sea baby navel drones to target a Varshavyanka-class submarine which the SBU said carried four launchers for Kalibr cruise missiles, which are regularly used by Russia to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

The strike was conducted jointly by the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU and the Ukrainian Navy.

“The ship suffered critical damage and was effectively out of service,” the SBU wrote on Telegram.

According to the agency, the submarine is estimated to be worth approximately $400 million, but due to international sanctions, the cost of constructing a replacement could rise to $500 million, it said.

The SBU added that the submarine had been docked in Novorossiysk after earlier successful strikes by Ukrainian surface drones had forced the Russian Navy to withdraw from Sevastopol, in occupied Crimea.

#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost_ . . . Drones operated by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck five Russian fighter jets overnight on Aug. 4 at an airfield in Saky, a city in Russian-occupied Crimea, the service said.

Ukrainian drones, in a Special Operations Center “A” mission, destroyed a Su-30SM aircraft, damaged another, hit three Su-24s, and struck an aviation weapons depot.

The Saky airbase plays a critical role in Russia’s military operations in the Black Sea, and the damage from the Ukrainian strike is considered “significant,” with a single Su-30SM jet valued between $35 million and $50 million, according to the SBU.

“The successful special operation carried out by the SBU in Saky marks another step toward weakening the enemy’s capacity to wage its war of aggression against Ukraine,” SBU said.

The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claims.

Russia has not officially commented on the reported strikes.

An operation by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) using first-person-view (FPV) drones smuggled deep inside Russian and hidden inside trucks has hit 41 Russian heavy bombers at four airfields across the country, a source in the agency told the Kyiv Independent on June 1.

The operation — codenamed “Spider Web” – was planned for more than a year and a half and has dealt a major blow to Moscow’s ability to attack Ukrainian cities.

According to the SBU, the drone operation resulted in $7 billion in damages and disabled 34% of cruise missile bombers in key Russian air bases.

“The SBU first transported FPV drones to Russia, and later, on the territory of the Russian Federation, the drones were hidden under the roofs of mobile wooden cabins, already placed on trucks,” the source said.

“At the right moment, the roofs of the cabins were opened remotely, and the drones flew to hit Russian bombers.”

The operation targeted multiple Russian air bases, including Belaya in Irkutsk, Olenya in Murmansk, Diaghilev in Ryazan, and Ivanovo in Ivanovo Oblast.
