ULTRAKILL: Layer-specific Husk appearances
I had this idea where the Husks you find around Hell would have different appearances based on the punishment/circumstances of their layer. I will probably draw this at some point... PRELUDE -Many have entrapped themselves in the workings and machinery of the facility. Some trapped between cogs, skin leathery from exposure to extreme heat and/or electricity, ect. Many of the Husks have been ground into gore mulch. LIMBO -Donning togas and/or simple clothing, as some of them seem to live within the halls. Also a reference to Dante's Inferno in which the Shades in Limbo are revered philosophers, writers, and so on. -Eyes sockets hollow and watery, a mixture of tears of shame and constant exposure to bright screens LUST -Donning togas, much more ornate and complicated than the ones in Limbo. They also wear jewelry, headdresses (such as a crown of laurels), and simple footwear. -Much older Husks have raw, worn skin from exposure to the harsh winds of the pre-renaissance Lust layer. GLUTTONY -Most of the Husks have been assimilated into the flesh walls of the layer. -Those who haven't shown signs of acid burns, have vile, swollen pustules and tumors dotting their bodies, and are coated in a stinking toxic mucus. -Gluttony Husks have much more voracious appetites, reflected in their grotesquely wide mouths. GREED -The older husks of this layer have leathery, mummified skin, and have fashioned a form of clothing and even jewelry from the abundant gold dust. (Like the Stalkers) -Newer husks are immobile and are melted onto the scorching dust, skin flecked with gold as the wind of the layer carries the dust through the air. WRATH -All the husks of this layer have bluish skin, look swollen in appearance and many are tangled with sea vegetation. -The Wrathful fighting at the surface have battered scars all across their body that fester from the constant fighting. -The Sullen at the bottom are even more swollen and have hardened in their poses due to the freezing depths. -The Husks on the Ferryman's boat again wear togas and simple clothing like in Limbo. HERESY -Those not stuffed into flaming coffins or harvested into gore mulch are usually afflicted with constant burn wound scars that never heal up no matter how long the Husk has been there. -Other Husks, mainly in the City of Dis, yet again wear simple clothing over their burn scars but wear unnerving animal skulls. Once a heretic always a heretic. VIOLENCE -All Husks that make it into the Garden of Forking Paths have been transfigured into Mannequins. -Husks in the battlefield not immersed in the river Phlegethon or compacted into the very ground have a myriad of War-Related injuries. Bullet holes, Missing limbs, awful respiratory issues (From a combination of smoke and bloody fumes from the Phlegethon.) -All Husks native to the Forest have been transfigured into trees. -Those in the final circle of Violence are stretched upon the sand and have melted skin similar to in Greed. This is a rare sight since the arrival of the Earthmovers. FRAUD -This layer has an abundance of schisms, as it is exceedingly easy for a soul to attempt to manifest in the same location as another soul in this Layer. -New husks in this layer aren't very active, as the trickery of this layer causes total sensory shutdown over a long period of exposure. -Some Husks have been stuck between dimensions in this layer, some visible only in mirrors with a horrified look on their empty faces. -The rest of the Husks in the layer make up the very walls, able to be spun around and contorted to lure more and more sinners in. TREACHERY Now, of course we haven't seen Treachery yet. But I believe it'll be a bit like 7-3, complete darkness (requiring V1 to turn on the flashlight) but surrounded by harsh winds and an frozen lake of blood. -The Husks of Treachery are pale, covered in blood frost and blood-sicles. Most are trapped neck-deep in the frozen blood. Some are completely trapped under the surface, unable to move.
UMM UMM hi ultrakill community waves wavingly . erm MY random headcanons / worldbuilding thoughts on the Lust Layer & Greed Layer’s individual societies, not super based on anything + subject to change but uh hope this is something!! !
(more under cut i just don’t know how to format this)
The Layer of Lust —
- Lust is very civilized all over, with electricity being provided from the capital city, which turns the water from Wrath into energy. There was transport, restaurants, jobs… It all wasn’t too different from Earthly cities, actually.
- In the cities, particularly the capital, there was very little crime with a strong justice and protection system. However, outside cities in the open lands, more wild demons ran free.
- The winds of Lust are immense, strong enough to lacerate and lift the body, and even rip skin off. Bodies would crash, collide and weld together in the tangle. Many cities were walled-in and built towering high to combat this, making cities more bearable.
- Buildings were large and complicated, having non-Euclidean geometry that allowed them to be much bigger on the inside than the outside. Some buildings had other buildings attached to them, including entire neighborhoods.
- Due to the culmination of so many people from all over the world and Hell, Lust’s culture was a melting pot of many different cultures and ideologies. However, Ancient Greek culture always remained at its heart due to their beloved ruler. District-wide and even city-wide celebrations were abundant and expected for just about any reason.
- The people of Lust were very well known for extreme hospitality and compassion, their predominant cultural values respecting peace, egalitarianism, acceptance, individuality, equity and kindness, having a strong social cohesion and sense of community.
- There was very little divide between demons and sinners, both being equal to one another, leading to the break of the torturer-sinner dynamic. Demons and sinners lived equally with one another, celebrating their diversity but coming together as one community.
- Greatly valuing history and a sense of belonging, the art and aesthetics of Lust is a certified staple. Every kind of creative expression was greatly upheld, artisans and creators of all backgrounds creating a unified cultural identity that aimed to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.
