whats ur new username mean?
MY PAL. STRAP IN. i was honest to god wishing someone would ask me this at some point, so bless you anon i hope you have a great week <3
ok so idk if you’re in the ouat fandom and was fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you want to look at it) spared from this ultimate level of nonsense, or if you’re not in the fandom at all. i’ll try to elaborate.
so my no. 1 regina mills had her son kidnapped and held hostage in the woods one episode. and while hiking through the forest looking for him, regina had an umbrella that she was using against the rain, y’know, as many a people are known to do. except many a people apparently don’t do this, and were very thrown by this “umbrella” phenomenon. 100% of these people were also anti-regina. and they decided this unknown act was the ultimate mark of a bad mother to her son, for a number of reasons, each one better than the last.
one, was that using this umbrella in the middle of this crisis showed that she cared more about her vanity than rescuing her son. even though we’ve all actually seen with each of our eyes that the actress playing regina, the Great Lana Parrilla (Di Blasio), has naturally curly hair that doesn’t get along with humidity (because it was legitimately drizzling in that scene) and whoever’s in charge of hair most likely didn’t want to put up with this shit. so they handed lana an umbrella. (the umbrella actually still didn’t hold up that well against the weather anyway, it was just here to start discourse.)
two, was that in the midst of this emergency regina took the precious little time they had to find her kid to go get her umbrella from wherever she stores her umbrellas. even though she was actually just about to leave town right before she found out about her son, and there’s a 99% chance she had it with her already. or better yet, the well established fact that she’s a motherfucking witch with magical powers and is very capable of poofing an umbrella out of thin air thankyouverymuch next pls.
three, was that her using the umbrella hindered her ability to take on whoever it was that kidnapped her child. even though she could just put the umbrella down. or the fact that she’s got another hand that’s just as capable of magic. or last resort, she could hit someone with the umbrella. but anyways…
this discourse reached a significant enough level that posts with screencap evidence on what regina’s “dominant magic hand” was were made and shit, and in the end it was all termed umbrellagate. and you bet your ass i immediately saved it as a url.
and now? i mean why not?
I was today years old when I found out about umbrellagate. I can't even - that's a real thing???
Lmao I seen the photos of the core four in the car and with veronica with a headscarf and glasses 5 bucks says the fans will criticize her for wearing them and praise betty just for being there
You know, anon? This reminds me of a story from the dark days of 2015 in the Once Upon a Time fandom, and the infamous Umbrellagate.
Regina Mills, while trying to rescue her son alongside said son’s other mother, happened to mysteriously be carrying an umbrella that she wasn’t carrying it in the previous scenes.
The reason? Lana Parrilla, her actress, has naturally curly hair that sometimes looks odd in the humidity of Southwest Canada. That’s literally the reason. There’s nothing more to it.
The antis? Wrote massive pieces of meta about how Regina was a terrible mother who cared more about her vanity than saving the life of her son. Despite the fact that she’s canonically a sorceress with the power to teleport objects and that’s likely how she got the umbrella in the first place.
When that was pointed out, the antis moved on to claim that the umbrella would’ve hindered her in a fight. This was obviously reaching, but some fans decided to engage them even then, such as @freifraufischer, who wrote a compilation of Regina’s magical fireballs to prove that the umbrella would not stop her since it was held in a different hand than the one she usually used for fireballs.
TL;DR: People will latch onto every silly thing they can if it means they get to call out WoC. I’ve seen this happen before and I’m sure Veronica will take a lot of hate for harmless fashion choices.
What a shame #putin you are something else #umbrellagate (hier: 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia)
stablequeens replied to your post:Favorite part of season 4? ;D
i thought umbrellagate was pretty fun
lolololol I stand corrected. Umbrellagate was boss af.
It’s been raining all day, so I wore my rain hat while running errands. I have to say, I felt especially evil. And then I realized this hat has a purple lining, kind of like a… DRAGON!!!!!!!!! Bet you didn’t see that coming. ;)
I have a large hat I wear when it's rainy. Where does that fall on the scale of evil?
