This is a bit of an odd one, does anyone know if it's identical to the regular DVD release? I can't actually find anything about it.

Gothika (PSP Movie on UMD video)

So recently I found this baby. 

I have never seen this movie before (and, quite frankly, was never super interested in watching it). However, since I found it on a UMD for the humble PSP, I ought to watch it. It also makes for a lovely addition to my PSP collection.

This right here is my PSP UMD anime collection. If you thought movies were rare on the PSP these guys here are sometimes harder to get. Some of these I got for a few bucks at the flea market. Others I picked up at the dollar store. The ones that did cost me a little more, were the Samurai Champloo umds. I got three of those clearance for $5 at an internet retailer. It's an anime that I like, and I thought it would be nice to own it. It looks like the anime company Geneon was fully on board what supplying the PSP with lots of anime. But sadly the UMD as a video format did not do very well. And it's a double slap on anime on UMD. Anime in the late 90s early 2000s and even now is quite expensive. On the DVD format, you at least get 3 or 4 episodes per disc. On UMD, there's only two episodes on there! The movies are quite self-contained and they are long enough. But if you're trying to collect series it's going to get real expensive. If UMD anime was $20 retail, with only two episodes on it, then you're better off buying the original DVD also for $20 and it has double the content. As an example Samurai Champloo is 26 episodes long. It's going to take a lot of UMD is to complete that collection. I only have four of them but I don't even think they finished completing this series on UMD. This is just another reason why UMD as media did not survive. Now it's just a footnote in video game history.
