In your last post about Unclemare, what happened to Dream?
OH! Dream gives his soul to Palette which turns him to stone.
Dream and Palette get into a fight and Palette runs away. Palette gets kidnapped by Nightmare when he runs. When Palette doesn't return home like usual, Dream starts to weaken himself searching for Palette.
Eventually Ink and blue help track down Nightmare's location. In Dream's desperation from keeping his soul from Nightmare and keeping Palette safe he straight up forces it onto Palette.
It gives Palette protection from people he's afraid of (it physically makes a barrier that someone can't cross) so Nightmare has no choice but to keep Palette with him in order to keep the golden apple.
After Palette changes Nightmare and the gang's views, and Palette can trust his uncle, he can give his dad's soul back. For a good portion of the time Dream is kept in a cell in Nightmare's castle but Horror eventually brings Dream to the garden so Palette can sit with his stone father.
Basic lore of the story plot that I wrote out haha...
I'll probably never finish any of these stupid comics but here's post (after Palette uncorrupts his uncle) Unclemare and Dream design that I've been drawing a lot. Palette thinks it’s funny to call his dad old man now.

Dream after almost half a year comes back for palette after FINALLY realizing he's gone, and when given the choice palette tells his papa how bad of a dad he is, then just kinda.. chooses to stay with unclemare??

Omg this is just yes! I LIVE for angst!! I absolutely love all the ideas people have given me for Palette just straight up denying his real dads for a better guardian.
Canonically in my au Nightmare is a little corrupted however. He's cruel and thinks of Palette only as a bargaining chip for a long while. Don't worry! Palette's the kid of Ink and Dream, he's got a few things up his sleeve...!
Also in the au Ink and Dream are simply platonic and Palette is made from their magic mixing.
Ink is totally not a parent of Palette's. Ink literally constantly forgets what Palette's relationship with him is and its established that Dream takes care of Palette alone. Palette knows that Ink is his other dad and it hurts him knowing that Ink is not part of his life despite both seeing each other often since Dream and Ink are friends, There are good moments though! Such as Palette getting his roller from Ink.
Dream is a parent who tries his best but just isn't cut out for being a parent. When he has the free time he spends all his time with Palette, trying to just take care of him. He lives a lifestyle where he's constantly on the run or just working. Palette gets left alone more times than he can count. It is due to Nightmare being corrupted and Dream never has time to just relax and breath.
Palette wasn't left alone as a kid thankfully and would usually be brought to Reapertale to be taken care of by Geno, which is why he's friends with Goth.
