It wasn't his usual route this time of the month, but his nephew had asked him to stop in so he figured he might as well do some business while he was there. She had broken in, again, and had decided to make herself comfortable perched atop a table, her back to the door as she absently scrolled through her phone, adding dates to her calendar and details about newly made deals coded out to sound mundane. It wasn’t the first time she had done this and, honestly, it wasn’t going to be the last.
The sound of footsteps had her turning, assuming it was Wyatt or one of the kids she actually had met before. “Your security needs updating if I’m getting in this eas--oh.” The words were cut off as she caught sight of a boy she had never seen before, assuming this had to be the new kid Wyatt had mentioned to her the last time she had pulled a stunt like this.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine...” Dainn murmured, his voice shaking a little as he tried to focus on slowing his breathing and pull himself out of the panic attack. “I just need a minute, okay?”
She sat down in front of him and offered her hands. She had been told that have something physical to touch could help ground a person when they were panicking and it was the best she could really offer. “Take as much time as you need, I’m not going anywhere. Promise.”

“Sounds rough,” Dax sympathised, aware that, despite his own struggles, he occupied a position of privilege in the present regard, since he was able to live a life of relative comfort and not need to worry about just getting by day by day by whatever means necessary.
He scoffed and rolled his eyes, making him look his age for even a moment. “You say that like I’m homeless or some shit.” He could have gone into any line of work he wanted, he had just happened to want the job he had. “I made my choice and I don’t regret it. My mom probably does, but she doesn’t say it.” His one sister, on the other hand, was a different story.
