My fail-proof re-bucketing system. Or, why I don’t get mad: . I’m unlike “normal people” in the way I deal with anger. Particularly when it comes to dealing with being mad at other people or situations. For example: . When a “normal person’s” (who we’ll name Sally for the sake of this post) friend tells her secret, betrays her, whatever… what does Sally do? . She gets mad. Probably revels in it. Until she gets an apology. At which point she’s “over it” but not really because the same betrayal will happen again since Sally continues to keep that friend in the same bucket (this’ll make sense in a minute). So when betrayal round 2 happens, Sally gets mad again. Repeat. More anger! But I’m not like Sally (is this starting to sound like a kid’s lesson, or what? :) ) What do I do to avoid reacting like Sally/most “normal people” in this situation? I employ my re-bucketing system! Meaning, if a friend does something like tell my deep secret, I just re-bucket them. They get transferred from the “friend I trust and tell personal things to” bucket to the “friend that I’ll hang out with sometimes but keep the convo high-level with no deep details” bucket. If a person in my life has a mindset with many limited beliefs and inadvertently semi-shits on my goals and dreams, they get transferred to the “hang out and don’t talk about anything aspirational or big” bucket. The result of my re-bucketing system? I don’t get mad! I simply re-shift where and how I let people into my life, mental space, and energy. Note: Re-bucketing works in all directions. You can also move a person from “sorta acquaintance” bucket to “BFF” bucket. Also note: There is absolutely a “you’re out!” bucket for all the people, experiences, environments that no longer serve you — so use it. So how can you stop getting upset? Re-bucket the shit out of your life. Yolo, dudes. Make it awesome.
