I never knew that bugs participated in parental care! Are there any others besides wood lice that also do this?

Oh yes, lots! Of course it depends on exact species, but parental care is seen in  some earwigs, centipedes, wolf spiders, cellar spiders, social spiders, parent bugs (a family of true bugs named for their parental care!), Japanese red bugs, scorpions, whip scorpions, vinegaroons, burying beetles, and the social hymenopterans like wasps, bees, and ants all come to mind, and those are just the ones I can think of offhand.

I'm sorry to keep bombarding you catfish crap but I just remembered this and thought it was funny-they had a farmer with the last name Smelley (no lie!) who sold the company large amounts of catfish and his fish always tasted like mud. We knew if we were getting a pond from Smelley's catfish they would be bad.

What kind of bird was Lonnie?

You cannot truly appreciate the eerie atmosphere and awful food at Waffle House unless you eat at one. And you can't do it just at any time-it needs to be between 10 pm and 5 am. My strangest experience was in an ancient Waffle House in North Alabama-it was 2:30 am and the only place open, and had the lowest health rating of any place i have ever eaten. There is also the fact that there is always a waitress missing a tooth no matter which one you are at!

See, exactly! exactly this. they are bizarre and ubiquitous and somehow there are just so many of them, and they have all these little quirks and artifacts of their own particular culture, like the FEMA Waffle House Index and the Waffle House plate code. They are strange and fascinating.
