UNRELATED: can you talk about how to make mulled wine? Or hot toddies? Or warm alcoholic drinks in general? I lack this knowledge in my life and it makes me very sad.

Sure!

For the mulled wine, you need:

*Red wine, cheap boxed wine is okay to use, and it’s a great way of using up leftover party wine

*Sugar (I use golden caster, some people use demerera or muscavado)

*Cinnamon Stick

*Lemon wedges (I also used some star anise for a bit of zing)

*You need to make a syrup first, I used the ratio one cup of water/half a cup of sugar, depends on how sweet you want the wine). Heat the water in a biiiiiiiig saucepan and add the sugar, don’t bring to the boil but wait until the sugar has dissolved. 

Then you add one cup of wine for every cup of water you used. I used three bottles of wine for the guests, ended up with 3/4s of a gallon (hence why I was drinking it the next day solo)

Add your cinnamon, lemon and star anise and keep it on a medium heat, make sure it never boils. I’ve heard you can do it in a crockpot but haven’t tried it yet. If it’s not sweet enough, add a bit more sugar. Drink and be merry. 

The hot toddy is fairly simple, you coat the inside of the glass with honey, add a shot of whiskey (or two shots if you’re feeling festive and/or dying of a chest infection) pour in some just boiled water to fill the glass, add a lemon wedge studded with cloves and drink!

This is like, a HORRIBLE question, but I haven't been able to get it out of my head. Beryl's thirteenth Pearl, the one that was soaked in thallium. Was that on purpose? I got the vibe of progressively-more-intentional carelessness with the others, but that was a horrific change of pace.

It was pure carelessness, I’m happy to tell you. Beryl left the thallium out without storing it properly and the pearl knocked it over on herself when she was putting away some other stuff. That’s not to say there aren’t other gems that do this kind of thing deliberately though.

They weren’t kings, or gods. Just men, for all their oddities, trying to tame a beast they knew was stronger than either of them. Thinking that perhaps by combining their strength, they would be able to do more.

It was awfully lonely atop the world, but what little company was to be found at least held substance.

I actually just got a response from them that boils down to “I’m so sorry I didn’t know my idea was so close to yours I’ll take it down I promise,” which...is what I wanted, more or less, although I still suspect they knew EXACTLY what they were doing

The concept of Corvo (or whoever) kissing the Mark for whatever reason isn’t a new one. AT ALL. There are plenty of other stories that deal with the exact same concept, and my version of the story was inspired by artwork someone else did. I get that fanfiction is inherently transformative, and in my AO3 profile I make a point of saying that I’m more than open to people translating, remixing, podficcing, or otherwise playing around with my work. I’M TOTALLY COOL WITH THAT. If they’d contacted me and said, “Hey, I really dug this story and it got me thinking about how Corvo kissing the Mark might be interpreted in the context of an intimate and NONsexual relationship between Corvo and the Outsider, is it cool if I post mine and link back to yours because they’re so similar?”

I probably would’ve been like, YEAH SURE GO FOR IT :D :D :D

But this went way, waaaaaay beyond remixing or reinterpretation, because when my story contains

It really doesn’t surprise you that these revolve around the Outsider (it is one thing to know than an ancient whale deity exists and quite another to have said ancient whale deity guiding your steps and giving you gifts)

I start to get my side-eye on, you know?

And then when MOST OF THE STORY is written this way, with my own words tweaked ever so slightly, and they’re insisting that they didn’t read anything in this fandom! they had no idea! seriously!

I don’t want anyone to go dogpile them or anything, because I’ve already commented and submitted an abuse report, and as long as they take the story down then the whole thing is done as far as I’m concerned.
