What happened to Aleena's husband in your AU?

I’m going to take your question as an opportunity to talk about the entirety of Aleena’s backstory with her husband because I don’t think I’ve shared it fully on Tumblr before. I will certainly be adding this to the outline document too!

Edmund Hedgehog (Ed for short) was born to a working class family along with his twin brother Charles (Chuck). After leaving school Ed and his childhood friend Argus join the royal guard where he is assigned to a night-shift patrol around the palace.

One night, an attempted break-in occurs, the intruders intending (stupidly) to kidnap the then princess Aleena and hold her for ransom. Ed is the one who stops the attempted kidnapping and brings Aleena to safety.

Ed is awarded by the King, Aleena’s father, for his actions. Aleena is a little shaken up by the events and asks to have a full-time bodyguard, requesting Ed specifically out of curiosity to get to know him better.

Ed is therefore assigned to be the princess’s bodyguard, and Aleena is very quick to strike up a friendship with him. Now, Aleena is an adventurous sort and asks Ed to bring her on trips outside of the palace and into the city to experience life like a regular young person. Ed eventually relents, bringing her out and introducing her to his brother and their friends.

One place they often frequent is a pub where one of the most frequent barmen is a man called Gin, who later becomes the resistance’s second in command.

It’s through these little excursions that Ed and Aleena grow closer and begin a romantic relationship

Time passes, and the king has some grave news to tell Aleena; he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and only has a few years to live. Aleena is of course upset by this, but her father tries to lift her spirits by formally giving his blessing to her relationship with Ed. Aleena is surprised he knew about it as she had been keeping it a secret but her father replies that he has eyes and knows what young love looks like. If anything he wishes Aleena would’ve had the confidence to have announced it to him.

Aleena and Ed grow even closer now that their relationship is in the open. The years pass, and unfortunately Aleena’s father passes away, and Aleena takes her place as heir to become queen. The night before her coronation Aleena proposes to Ed. She wants to asks now, worried that her change in title would alter Ed’s perception of her and distance them.

Ed happily accepts the proposal and some months later they are married, with Ed gaining the title of Prince Consort. Shortly Aleena becomes pregnant and is expecting triplets! The young couple are over the moon and eagerly await the new arrivals.

It is around this time that concerning news is brought to the royal family. A man named Robotnik has invented a machine that turns people into robotic versions of themselves. Robotnik has been kidnapping people, roboticize them, and forcing them to build large, heavily armed robots called Swatbots. Robotnik has been going from town to town growing his robotic army and now advances towards the capital.

Aleena commands for a blockade outside the city to be made to stop Robotnik’s advance. She wishes she could go to the battlefront to lead her army in person, but obviously with her heavily pregnant this is out of the question. Ed goes in her stead, along with Argus who has risen in rank to captain of the royal guard.

For context, Mobius has not experienced a large military conflict in over 500 years, and over time it’s military has mostly became just for ceremonial purposes, with occasional other duties in small-scale security and disaster relief. It is not prepared to take on a heavily armed opponent, especially one who is escalating as quickly as Robotnik.

The battle commences and it is a disaster for the mobian army. A retreat is called, and in the chaos to escape shrapnel from an explosion pierces Edmunds chest. He dies in Argus’ arms, his last words urging his friend to protect Aleena and to follow whatever plan she may have.

Been thinking about Underground Remixed recently. I said i would finish chapter three in comic form then move to posting the rest as transcripts… and then over a year later i haven’t done that. oops

I mean a big part of it was simply that i got a full time job, but ngl it also didn’t help that whenever i got comments asking when the next page would be out (mostly from deviantart rather than tumblr) it would make me feel demotivated for some reason.

Feeling kinda bad about leaving Remixed unfinished because that means i just did the exact same shit the original Sonic Underground show did…

So i’m just gonna say fuck it, i’ll tidy up and upload my overall outline rather than keeping the plot in the dark any longer. I’ll also have it as a policy to accept Underground Remixed related asks and requests if you guys want more detail about plot points or wanna see character designs or a particular scene drawn
