I wonder how many parents know but do nothing? Why say something if they might even abuse themselves? Just like they were abused when they were small, helpless, innocent...
The mind of a proud person acts in that way to protect itself from the deep insecurity that lies by making others seem less than and thus gives them a superiority complex
