The question was restating what Ford already suspected - there's something making noise, so he's been standing alert for past minute or so. He's unsure if he's happy to know that it's not his imagination making that noise. It means the danger could be real. He would've argued the noise he heard was real, but at least it meant he just had to be convinced that everything was fine. But this is real. He's not being simply paranoid - there are strange thuds and rustles that could come from... anything.

"Stay close," he finally said, hand reaching under his coat towards his gun around his belt. Ford isn't pulling it out quite yet, but if the source got any closer, his next thought is to shoot. Better safe than sorry.
