◤ Major Arcana Asks !! ◢ XIII. Death — Describe a time where your muse felt like they lost a major part of their life. @unforged
This one is probably very OBVIOUS to use as an answer but since I haven’t gone super into it before I’m gonna go ahead and build on it now. The time Belphie spent locked in the attic is something that affected him in many ways. We’re not given a definitive time beyond “ before the MC arrived in the devildom ” but I’ve said before that the LEAST it could possibly be is about a year given all the planning that still had to happen after Diavolo initially brought up the idea. All-in-all it’s strange that nobody really questioned his disappearance before the exchange program even began but, well, OM likes to NOT think things out and then contradict themselves later so we’ll leave that be for now too. So a year is the very least but everyone treats it as if it’s been much longer. Between the planning and negotiating and choosing the students among the three realms it honestly COULD have taken a longer time.
So this is over a year spent locked up in the attic without any way to contact his brothers or the outside world in general and the only face he sees on OCCASION is that of the one who locked him up— one he fucking hates. He’s left alone with his thoughts which I’ve written a bit on how bad they are / can get. ( Tbh It’s likely that he had several breakdowns during this time in between fits of rage ). He’d stop bothering to COUNT the days if he even had a means of keeping track in the first place. And when he’s finally free from there after years, everyone is changed in some way. The brothers seem pretty STAGNANT in who they were before the MC arrives and even though they’re basically the same as before, there are still big differences. ( I.e. Satan being able to get along with Lucifer, Asmo loving the MC MORE than himself at times, Levi having a ‘ normie ’ friend of all things, etc. ).
And Belphegor missed ALL of that. On top of this, he’s already adverse to change. This leaves him on the outside of things even more than he already was and makes his years in the attic seem as if it was longer. So no matter if it was one, two, or 20 years, the fact that his stubborn brothers were changed by ONE human is like another stab in the back. And instead of welcoming his return, everyone but Beel was unsure of how to even treat him ! At least when Lucifer changed he was there to WITNESS it. So in short, he spent an undetermined amount of time alone with conditions that made it impossible to tell how long it really was and comes back to people that are somewhat strangers hesitant to receive him. Anyone would feel like they missed out on something major in that case.
