“Eleven years later, [United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/262, Territorial Integrity of Ukraine,] remains the cornerstone of the global non-recognition policy concerning the attempted annexation of Crimea.” ~ @mfa_ukraine 🇺🇦🌍💙💛🌏🇺🇳
#Repost @mfa_ukraine with @use.repost_ . . . On 27 March 2014, the international community took its first political step in response to the attempt to forcibly alter internationally recognized borders in Europe. On that day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 68/262, Territorial integrity of Ukraine, condemning the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol and reaffirming its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
Eleven years later, this resolution remains the cornerstone of the global non-recognition policy concerning the attempted annexation of Crimea. Its political and legal relevance continues to grow in the context of the ongoing full-scale aggression by the Russian Federation.
On the anniversary of its adoption, we recall why resolution 68/262 marked the beginning of a broad international coalition in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity – and why its provisions remain critically important today.
