the more I find out about appalachia as pictures and phone calls finally get out, the more my heart breaks. that’s ancient place, ancestral land, and everything is gone. chimney rock washed out, unicoi completely underwater, the appalachian trail swept with flood and landslides. in my home state tennessee, 73+ are still missing, and those are just the people we know about. the death toll through the southeast keeps climbing.
think of appalachia, please. mountain folk are strong and hardy, but this is a time when we cannot bolster through this alone. appalachia needs support. it will take generations to rebuild what’s been lost, and the government is never gonna care about towns with high poverty rates and low education because we’re consistently left by the wayside and ignored.
my heart is there in appalachia, I can only hope I hear from my family soon to know they’re alive.
Bottoms Loop Trail at Unicoi State Park in Georgia.
It eases my mind to be surrounded by such beauty. To know that God is real and created this beautiful earth for us, created us for this beautiful earth.
Unicoi is probably my favorite lake around here
