new unionverse fic! oscar goes on a wizard shopping trip. surely nothing unpleasant will happen on the way!
a little bit on mateja and kolya and their kids in the main lore, all of mateja and kolya's offspring on their pages exist, and they all were born in their canonical nests, like - lyudmila, faris, tomislav, and tsvetanka were all born at the same time, temahae and timotei were born together, aleko was alone, and miho and emil were born together. lyudmila, faris, and tsvetanka are still in clan zmaj. tomislav trained and was exalted into the icewardens' service. timotei died, temahae was offered to clan ogygia as a peace treaty/alliance deal. aleko is a traveler/nomad. miho and emil were forced to be exalted by the icewarden because at the time they were born the ice flight was embroiled in a massive war. there was angst involved. mateja and kolya stopped having children after that. in unionverse, however, some of those kids straight up don't exist and were born in different orders. lyudmila was their first kid. faris and tsvetanka were born as twins about a year later. two years later, temahae and timotei were born, timotei died shortly after being born. aleko was born two years after that. tomislav, miho, and emil just don't exist and humans don't super have the proclivity to have triplets out of the blue so lyudmila is older than her canonical nestmates and that's the way they all became the brady bunch 🎶
kolya: has listened to more than one vocaloid song mateja: sprained a man's arm for cigarettes
au mateja definitely.. like.... used to smoke? she's the type of person. when she got transferred to bonerattle point the military was not in the habit of shipping out cigarettes to the boonies, so she had to quit cold turkey and that is part of why she is so irritable when kolya meets her
so with my lore i sort of have a real canon, which is where everyone's a dragon and sornieth is the same and everything, then i have a version where my clan is all humans, but that's really only for gijinka purposes and doesn't really have anything different from my main lore, and then there's the human AU, which is where my lore sort of kind of takes place in an alternate sornieth that's akin to modern times. everyone's a human and they have different designs than their gijinka designs... this one is the one where they literally are at a military outpost named "bonerattle point" and a lot of things from my original dragon lore are changed, especially preservationism and the more mystical elements. the human au is really fun... i should probably give it a name (unionverse? bc the southern icefield is named the southern union in this one...) and draw it more. i lov it
mooooore human au!
from my last post abt government structure …
so exalting does exist in this au! exalting is different depending on what age you are when it happens.
if you’re exalted as a trained adult, you go into the military! if you’re not strong enough/have some sort of condition that disallows you from physically fighting, you go into a government job - and it’s a very high honor, both ways. some people trained specifically for a job as a lawyer or a judge will be exalted to work in that specific role, too.
if you’re exalted as a child, it’s a bit like being put up for adoption. there’s really no stigma, and the governments all have incredibly good systems to deal with exalted children.
many children are put into foster care with families around the country, many are adopted, a lot of them are treated as wards of the state and will be kept in state houses together! this usually means that you will be sent into the military when you get older, but when you turn 18 it is entirely your choice to either strike out on your own or join the military/take a government job.
lots of exalts (a name given to exalted children who weren’t adopted) take the military option. some people speak out against this and say that exalts are forced to join the military by circumstance and lack of real-world experience, but the tsar denies this entirely.
aaanyways.
both mateja and kolya are exalts, sort of.
mateja was exalted right away after being born. she grew up as a child of the state and decided to stick with it when she turned 18. she had a quick stint in the military, but wasn’t put on any front lines and was instead assigned to be a border patrol guard at Bonerattle Point, a new checkpoint constructed at the closest point to the Arcane Isles - or any other landmass, for that matter - for fear of illegal border crossers and smuggling.
kolya was also exalted right away, but instead was adopted as a baby and grew up with adoptive parents. he wanted a government job, though, and decided to enter himself back into the government’s hands. they decided the Point needed a more bureaucratic touch, so they gave him extremely basic military training, taught him the skills needed to run the Point efficiently, and then sort of. Sent him off.
…the Southern Union’s government isn’t exactly known for being organized. or good, for that matter.
but anyways, that’s how mateja and kolya both ended up at bonerattle point
hey more human au stuff!
so my human au still exists within sornieth as a place, but it does adopt modern technology and language and what have you
but governments aren’t like the real world’s!
basically, the world is split up into twelve major countries. eleven of them are the flights - the twelfth is the United Federation of Beasts, referred to usually as the Fed. they have independent nation-states within it but they do have a central government ruling over the separate states.
so down south there’s the Southern Union, the SU, which is where our dear heroes Mateja and Kolya hail from. the leader is Tsar Eberict, and to his subjects he’s a god.
actually, it’s like that for most everybody - the world bases a lot of its political leaders on the idea of them being divine. (the federation doesn’t, but they’re weird.)
the countries are CONSTANTLY warring, like, honestly, people are getting tired. and Tsar Eberict is becoming acutely aware that his once-vast claim of land is becoming increasingly smaller (THANKS GLOBAL WARMING) so he’s become very hostile lately. while he isn’t becoming aggressive, defense has become very important, especially from threats like Queen Akiri from the Ashfall State and Lord Xhaztol’s gentle press from the Arcane Isles.
soooooo he’s gotta get some border patrols going… on a giant continent……..
that’s one big island.
(no one said the Tsar wasn’t a little paranoid.)
and this is how Mateja and Kolya get their jobs. whee, government employment! woo! doing a public good in the middle of the Ice Hell Boonies!!!! WOOOOOO
(heh, all of the deities’ human names are their unused names and their countries’ names are just modified from their region names.)
