Converting Between Units
-- always write every number associated with the unit
-- always include units in calculations -- treat them like algebraic quantities -- units must flow logically from start to end
given unit x (desired unit / given unit) = desired unit
given unit x (desired unit / given unit) = desired unit
-- the two ‘given units’ cancel each other out, leaving you with the desired unit
Example: convert 17.6 inches to centimeters
1 in = 2.54 cm
17.6 in x (2.54 cm / 1 in)
17.6 x 2.54 cm
44.7 cm
