Unit Party 2017 results!

Our second unit poll has been a huge success and I’d like to thank everyone who participated. In total, there were 295 respondents, casting a grand total of 1,962 votes. If you want to see complete detailed results, our spreadsheet can be viewed here. But right now, I’ll give you the highlights.

Overall:

A much closer finish than last year, where LiPPS completely dominated every other unit. This time, Pink Check School of “Love Letter” won out, which is unsurprising if you remember the chaos of their event. LiPPS and Caerula tied for second. In fact, a number of units were knocked out by new or newly debuted units. 20% of all votes went to these 5 winners. Also, Black Gothic Dress and Project Krone are the only units not that do not have a song available in Starlight Stage.

Another really tight match for this year’s Most Valuable Idol. With LiPPS not winning nearly as much, Rin shined this year. Member of 4 of the top 10 units, face of Starlight Stage, and generally very popular, it’s no surprise Rin did this well. The other LiPPS members are not far behind though, Kanade in particular. Frederica has fallen significantly after her units all received significantly less support this time. I wonder if LiPPS members will continue to do so well in the future! Probably the category with the most change this year. Last year, there were only three units from the game! From early on, it seemed like it would be a battle between LiPPS and Enjin and they ate up the majority of votes. In the end, LiPPS kept their place on top. The big loser this time was, sadly, the Snow Wings unit. The only unnamed unit to make the top 5 was the Nocturne Unit, a frankly all-star lineup of adult idols (and Kanade). Their event story is great, give it a read.

Anime:

Triad Primus - 57 votes

Project Krone - 43 votes

Believe it or not, the anime results are almost exactly the same as they were last year. The main difference being the LOVE LAIKA fell from second to third place and the other units were bumped up. Krone continues to be popular despite not having a real song! Unless much changes in the future, these results will probably remain. None of the above units have gotten any new content and remain anime exclusive.

Caerula and the other new Jewelries 003 units came in swiftly and decisively over the older groups. Personally, I think the 003 set was the best, with all three CDs being big winners all around. Also worth noting, no particular type was favored! All three won big and lost big.

After their debut event, Pick Check School has been pretty popular, beating last year’s winner by a handy amount! BGD gets points for being part of Triad Primus while the other sets have sadly been forgotten. Someday, they might get more voiced members or even an event, but that day isn’t today.

Individuals - 59 votes

Positive Passion & Sexy Guilty - 21 votes

Sexy Gyarus - 14 votes

Hardcore Heaven’s Door - 12 votes

Cute Me and the 142′s - 11 votes

The three or more category had the most options to vote for, over 100! A few groups floated to the top shortly after voting opened, most notably “∀NSWER” performers Individuals. Their recent song and event pushed them way up from last year where they received votes in the single digits. Other debuted groups like Positive Passion and Sexy Guilty didn’t do nearly as well as I expected they would. Sexy Guilty in particular just had an event, a birthday, and an anime appearance. Hardcore Heaven’s Door is a very new unit, one that I actually added late because I didn’t even know they existed. Sadly, Sachiko was not voted the cutest in 5th place overall, though that’s better than most in this category. A big upheaval overall here!

Familia Twin & Lazy Lazy - 15 votes

With 85 entrants, pairs also had some stiff competition but the winner left all others in the dust. HappyHappyTwin (or Ankira) took 25% of the votes in this category, enough to put them in third overall. Rock the Beat, while also being popular, just couldn’t compete. Most other units failed to scoop up many votes, even last year’s winnner, Lazy Lazy. As Starlight Stage debuts more small units, it’ll be interesting to see if/how this list changes next year.

Largely a question to satisfy my own curiosity, I really have to call this one basically a tie. I’m excited to see what other songs we’ll get, especially after Pink Check School’s debut in the game!
