Uses: Outlook and other emailing services are used extremely often, not only in the Creative Media Industry, but in all business as it is an easy and quick way to send someone, or multiple people, a quick message containing a variety of things as listed above in the Description.
Forums
NeoGaf-
Description: This and any other Forum allows the user to express his or her own opinions on the subject, whatever that might be.
Uses: NeoGaf itself is used by hardcore gamers where they may express their feelings and opinions on games. This can be used by those in the gaming industry to see what exactly gamers are looking for. This benefits both the gamers and those in the industry as it can help towards making a better game from the negative critique it receives.
Social media
Twitter-
Description: Twitter is used around the world as a means for people to express their opinions on current and trending events.
Uses: This can be used by companies in a multitude of media’s to check people’s opinions on their product. It can be used in the same way as NeoGaf above.
FaceBook-
Description: Facebook is used by millions of people all over the world and is commonly used for users to express themselves in a multitude of ways.
Uses: This can be used by companies in a multitude of media’s to check people’s opinions on their product. It can be used in the same way as NeoGaf above.
Voice Chat
Team Speak-
Description: A Voice Chat service mainly used by gamers to talk with each other while playing video games.
Uses: While this service is primarily used by gamers, there is no reason that it couldn’t be used for business purposes considering the fact that it has the capacity to have a large amount of people talking in on “Channel”.
Video Chat
Skype-
Description: A software used world-wide due to it’s accessibility and usefulness in a range of situations, from gaming to business to talking to friends on the other side of the world.
Uses: Skype has a large array of uses. In the Creative Media Industry, it is mainly used as a means to speak with colleagues about work and gives the opportunity to have an in-depth conversation due to the fact that you can be i a Skype “Call” with multiple people at any time. Skype also allows you to send small files via their messaging service.
Skype actually uses a variety of Communication media, such as Messaging, Voice Chat, Video Chat and Screen Sharing. All of these combined together with an easy-to-use interface allow for people to Communicate with each other with ease.
Instant Messaging
Whatsapp-
Description: An app created for mobile phones to be able to send messages to another person without it requiring phone credit.
Uses: Whatsapp can message people all over the world without costing money which allows people to have long conversations without losing credit. A major downside to Whatsapp is that it requires an internet connection, making it useless under certain circumstances.
Facebook Instant Messenger-
Description: Facebook is used by millions of people all over the world and can therefore be used as an easy and quick way to message colleagues.
Uses: Facebook can be used as a means of connecting with colleagues no matter where they are in the world at no cost, although much like Whatsapp, it requires an internet connection meaning it is not a viable resource in many scenarios. Due to the fact that Facebook is used primarily by younger people as a way of talking to friends and family, it could be seen as quite unprofessional by many companies
File Sharing
Drop Box-
Description: An easy way to upload files onto a Cloud system and share them.
Uses: Drop Box could be used by people in the Business Industry to save and share work files via a Cloud system. This means that there can be less to-and-fro with files as they can all be stored in one place for anyone in the company to access at any time. The fact that you can save work on the site also means that there’s less risk of losing the file altogether.
