This is not a country of liberty, nor is it a country of justice. The United States has fooled it’s citizens time and time again when it comes to the illusion of freedom. Freedom is the ability to live your life as is, without any fear of restrictions whatsoever. When POC get shot down by the murderers the government have put in place to “protect” us, I am able to recognize this is a country that holds nothing but false ideals. Racism has been a key pillar to the structure of our nation, as one race continues to affect the life chances of all others races below it. Freedom and justice will continue to be nonexistent until it applies to more than just the elite in this country. I wish I could say there won’t be another death after George Floyd, but with the way our government has responded it seems that it is inevitable. The citizens of this nation need to tear down the traditional systems that had already been flawed to begin with, and instead strive to reform our country to one that can truly epitomize the phrase “all men are created equal.” I strive for a reality in which Black lives matter just as much as all other lives in this country, one in which all Americans can atone to the belief that this is a land “with freedom and justice for all.”

In a Facebook post that’s going viral, owner Howard Bender doesn’t reveal exactly what the spray-painted message said, describing that it was “intended to be anti-Semitic just outside our front door,” before writing that Naperville PD is investigating it and that “we know this is not the true Naperville we are a part of, and that we have endless support from our customers and the rest of the community. We encourage everyone to be kind and reach out to those that are different from you.” Eater will update this story if any more details and news on this awful episode are revealed.
UPDATE: The graffiti in question read “Free Gaza” and was spray painted on the sidewalk near the deli’s front door, the Daily Herald reports. Bender told the newspaper that he considers it to be a hate crime. The Naperville Patch reports that local police are indeed investigating the incident as a hate crime and has a photo of the graffiti.
