I am so proud to present HUELGA, Mi Raza: Dolores Huerta SI SE PUEDE! 9ftx5ft PapelPicado Inspired Hand cut and layered 2020 She will be exhibited at the opening of the Women’s Suffrage Movement exhibition at the Indiana State Museum March 27. Since Latinas weren’t part of the Women’s Suffrage Movement I decided to create and teach about the heroines that have made Latinas Proud and unseen. This piece is in honor of all the migrant workers in the fields struggling everyday to pick the fruits and vegetables that come to our tables, and the one and only Dolores Huerta, Mexican American labor leader and CivilRights activists who co founded the United FarmWorkers Movement alongside the much respected Mexican American activist Cesar Chávez in 1965. Huerta has and continues to fight for migrants workers human rights and for the Latino communities nationwide. This piece is dedicated to Mi Raza working hard in the fields migrant workers who face so much racial discrimination and abuse by those in power, and for my own family who have experienced such discrimination in the fields of Whitetown, Indiana and California.
