As we can see in the hit movie Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), in the multiverse, there are an infinite Peter Parkers, yet they all serve the same divine role of Spider-Man. This begs the question, what about God? Are there an infinite number of divine beings spread across their respective universes, or One Lord and Master of the Multiverse? In this essay about the Cosmic Christ, I will—
We’re not like Jesus
In, The Universal Christ, Richard Rohr points out that after healing someone, Jesus never said, “My magic power did it. Now come join my religion!” Instead, Jesus would say something along the lines of, “Your faith has saved you, now go in peace!”
Think about that…
Jesus healed them, then attributed the healing to themselves through their own faith, and told them to go in peace.
Is this how the modern church operates?
Do we serve others in a way that helps them to serve themselves, and then send them on their way, expecting nothing in return; or do we serve others so that they will stay at our church and help us flourish?
We always seem to be asking ourselves questions like: How do we get more young people to come to church? How do we get more people from the community to come to church? How do we get inactive members to come back?
What we should be asking ourselves is how can we selflessly serve all of God’s children in a way that puts their needs above our own.
“Stripped of all outer ego, stripped of the accumulations of this world, stripped of everything but the Light within our heart, how many of us today could pass through the crucifixion?...What are you in the Holy Spirit? Is your temple the temple of the living God? If it is, then there is nothing that the world can offer you, not its plaudits, not its praise, not its blame; nothing in this world can touch you because you are sealed and hid with Christ in God.“
-Mark and Elizabeth Clare Prophet, the Path of the Universal Christ
I have never been separate from God, nor can I be, except in my mind.
