Universal Fan Con Cluster-F^&%
By now you probably know the hot mess that the folks that make-up Universal Fan Con are caught up in, a week before their con was suppose to kick-off in Baltimore.
News of emails (cc’ with all of your information in them),loosely worded message from the event founders, cancellation notices from hotels or lack of any communication about the con started hitting social media last night like an out-of-control forest fire on a hot summer day in August.
And boy..oh.. boy....if this isn’t something that will make you think twice the next time you decide to “back” but honestly what you really were, was an investor of what had been called for the last year, one of the biggest diverse comic book convention, that would ever hit the East Coast.
You’ve seen the tweets, seen them at local conventions, asking us con-goers,comic con geeks/nerds to contribute to the cause, to make this dream into a reality. Now all this has turned into a nightmare, especially for those who are stuck with non-refundable airfares, out of thousands of dollars, vacation time, vendors stuck with additional merchandise they had planned to sell at the con. I keep seeing “fix it” from the event host(s),a few months ago that would have been kind of okay to say, even Showtime’s Ray Donavan might have been able to “fix it”.
A week before the convention....the more appropriate comment would be something more out of mob movie, like “No questions asked, just return the money.”
Some cons have stepped up and will take folks that are still going to travel to B-More, you can make a detour to Philly, so all is not lost.
Read the screenshots that fans have saved, since apparently the folks at Universal Con keep editing, back tracking instead of getting some legal advise and stop digging a bigger hole than the one they are already in.
Return the money to your investors, vendors, etc, your company failed to deliver on the goods and the 56K that you took to finance this convention and now you are saying there is no more money.
No one wants to see anyone in a legal battle but the future is looking like court proceedings in small claims court and being under investigation by the Federal Government for Fraud.
Return the money!
