HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU
˚⋆🧁༉‧₊˚. crushing!keonho x fem!reader
𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🥞 / ⋆ ۪ now playing ‘hopelessly devoted to you’ - Olivia Newton-John
synopsis: keonho would do almost anything for a chance with you. From quietly going out of his way to help you to putting his pride aside just to make you smile, his hopeless crush has him determined to prove that, somehow, you’re worth every effort.
word count: 2,274
I might make a part 2 if this does well 👀
Keonho had never considered himself a particularly hopeless person. He was optimistic when it mattered, stubborn when he needed to be, and usually confident enough in himself that he could walk into a room without worrying too much about what everyone else thought of him. There was, however, one glaring exception to that rule, and unfortunately for him, that exception had a name. He had been crushing on you for long enough that his friends had stopped asking whether he liked you and started asking when he was finally going to admit it to you. Keonho always insisted that he was waiting for the right moment, but the truth was that he had been waiting for the right moment for so long that he had practically turned waiting into a hobby. Every time you smiled at him, his confidence disappeared. Every time you casually asked him for help with something, he would agree before you had even finished asking. If you mentioned that you liked a particular drink, he would remember it. If you said you had been having a stressful week, he would quietly make sure you had something to cheer you up the next time he saw you. It was ridiculous, really, how much space one person could occupy inside his head without even trying.
His friends noticed everything. They noticed how Keonho’s attention immediately snapped towards you whenever you entered a room, even if he had been halfway through a conversation. They noticed how he suddenly became suspiciously interested in whatever plans you happened to mention. They noticed how he would volunteer himself for the most inconvenient tasks if it meant he could spend another ten minutes around you. Once, when you casually mentioned that she had forgotten to bring an umbrella, Keonho had somehow managed to produce one from his bag despite the fact that nobody had seen him carrying it that morning. When someone asked where it had come from, he had shrugged and muttered something about being prepared. His friends had stared at him in disbelief because they knew perfectly well that Keonho was not normally prepared for anything. Yet when it came to you, somehow he could remember everything. Your favourite snacks. The songs you liked. The days you were usually busy. The tiny details you mentioned once and probably forgot about five minutes later. Keonho collected those details without meaning to, storing them away because anything you told him felt important.
It wasn’t even about impressing you anymore. That was the part that made his feelings so hopeless. At first, he had absolutely wanted to impress you. He had wanted you to notice him, to think he was funny, to find excuses to talk to him. But somewhere along the way, that had changed into something much softer. He simply wanted you to have a good day. If that meant carrying something heavy for you, he would. If it meant waiting around after everyone else had left because you needed company, he would. If she mentioned wanting to try a café you had seen online, Keonho would quietly remember the name and then find himself looking it up later, wondering what you might order there. He wasn’t keeping score. He wasn’t expecting anything in return. He just liked making things easier for you, even if you never realised how much thought went into it.
One Saturday afternoon, that devotion finally became impossible for his friends to ignore. They were all supposed to meet at a small café in town, but Keonho arrived nearly half an hour early because he had remembered you mentioning that you liked sitting by the window. Naturally, nobody let him live it down. He had barely sat down before one of his friends raised an eyebrow and asked why he had arrived so early when he was usually the last person to show up. Keonho immediately claimed that he had simply been bored at home, which might have been believable if he hadn’t spent the previous twenty minutes staring at the entrance. His friends exchanged knowing looks, but before they could tease him any further, you walked through the door. Keonho’s entire expression changed without him even noticing. The irritation he’d been pretending to have disappeared, replaced by a smile so immediate and genuine that his friends collectively groaned.
You spotted them and walked over, greeting everyone before turning to Keonho. “You got here early?”
“Yeah,” he answered far too quickly.
You laughed softly. “That’s new.”
Keonho smiled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Maybe I’m becoming responsible.”
“Maybe,” you teased, clearly unconvinced.
He wanted to tell you that he had arrived early because he wanted to make sure you got the seat you liked. He wanted to tell you that he’d already checked the menu because he remembered you didn’t like overly sweet drinks. He wanted to tell you that he’d actually considered arriving even earlier so he could order something for you, but decided that would probably be too obvious. Instead, he simply pulled out the chair beside the window and gestured for you to sit.
“You can have this one.”
You looked at the chair, then at him, smiling. “You remembered.”
Keonho blinked. “Remembered what?”
“My favourite seat.”
His heart practically stopped.
He tried desperately to act normal. “Oh. Yeah. I guess I did.”
You smiled again before sitting down, completely unaware that those two words had just ruined whatever remained of his ability to behave normally. His friends were watching from across the table, and Keonho could practically feel their eyes burning into the side of his head. He ignored them.
The afternoon passed easily. They talked about everything and nothing, drifting from silly stories to complaints about their week, and Keonho found himself completely content just listening to you. He liked the way you talked with your hands when you got excited. He liked the way you laughed at your own jokes before anyone else could. He liked how you occasionally became distracted halfway through a story because you remembered another story you wanted to tell. He liked all of it. Every little thing. At one point, you mentioned that you had been trying to find a specific book but couldn’t find it anywhere locally. Keonho made a mental note of the title immediately.
He didn’t tell you that he’d already seen it online.
He didn’t tell you that he knew which shop had it.
He definitely didn’t tell you that he’d been considering buying it for you before you even mentioned wanting it.
Instead, he listened, asked a few questions, and smiled when you eventually moved onto another subject. That evening, after everyone had gone home, Keonho found himself standing outside the bookshop the following day, staring through the window at the exact book you had mentioned. He hesitated for perhaps three seconds before walking inside.
It wasn’t some grand romantic gesture. It wasn’t even particularly dramatic. It was simply Keonho being Keonho, unable to resist the opportunity to make someone he cared about happy. He bought the book, slipped it carefully into a bag, and then spent the entire walk home wondering whether giving it to you would be too obvious. Eventually, he decided he would only give it to you if the opportunity arose naturally.
Naturally, the opportunity arose three days later.
You had been complaining about your week when Keonho casually held out the bag.
“What’s that?” you asked.
He shrugged. “For you.”
You frowned slightly before looking inside. When you pulled the book out, your eyes widened.
“No way.”
Keonho immediately became fascinated by the floor.
“You actually found it?”
“Yeah.”
“Where?”
“Bookshop.”
You stared at him for a moment. “I know it’s a bookshop. I mean, how did you find it?”
Keonho smiled sheepishly. “I remembered the title.”
Her expression softened. “You remembered?”
“Of course.”
There it was again. That look. That warm, grateful smile that made him feel like he had somehow won something even though you had only said thank you.
“That’s really sweet of you,” you said.
Keonho’s ears turned pink.
“Don’t make it a big deal.”
“I’m making it a big deal.”
“You always make everything a big deal.”
“Because you do nice things and then pretend they’re nothing.”
He laughed quietly, unable to think of a response. The truth was that he didn’t know how to explain himself without admitting everything. He didn’t know how to tell you that remembering things about her was easy because he genuinely cared. He didn’t know how to explain that he liked knowing what made you happy, or that seeing you smile could completely turn his day around.
So instead, he simply smiled.
And you smiled back.
For Keonho, that was enough.
For now.
As the weeks passed, his feelings only became more obvious. He started finding excuses to spend time around you, though he tried to make sure they were never forced. If you needed help with something, he offered. If you mentioned going somewhere with friends, he happened to be free. If everyone was making plans together, Keonho somehow always ended up sitting nearby. He never pushed himself into your space. He never demanded your attention. He simply made himself available, hoping that one day you might notice that he was always there.
Eventually, even you started noticing.
One evening, the group had gathered at someone’s house for a relaxed movie night. Everyone was scattered around the living room, talking over the opening credits and arguing over what snacks to order. You arrived a little later than everyone else, looking exhausted after a long day. Keonho noticed immediately.
“You okay?” he asked quietly.
You nodded. “Just tired.”
Without saying anything else, he shifted slightly to make room beside him.
“You can sit here.”
You smiled. “Thanks.”
You sat beside him, and Keonho suddenly became painfully aware of how close they were. Their shoulders occasionally brushed whenever one of them moved, and every time it happened, he had to remind himself to breathe normally. Eventually, you rested your head against the back of the sofa and closed your eyes.
Keonho glanced at you.
“You can sleep if you want.”
“I don’t want to miss the movie.”
“You’ve already missed twenty minutes.”
You opened one eye. “Have I?”
“Yep.”
“Then wake me up if anything important happens.”
He smiled. “I will.”
A few minutes later, you fell asleep.
Keonho stayed perfectly still.
He could have moved. He could have adjusted his position. He could have joined the conversation happening on the other side of the room. Instead, he remained exactly where he was, quietly watching the movie while making sure you were comfortable. When the room became colder, he carefully reached for the blanket lying nearby and draped it over you.
One of his friends caught him doing it.
They stared at each other.
Keonho silently mouthed, Don’t.
His friend grinned.
Keonho knew he was never going to hear the end of it.
But he didn’t care.
Because when you stirred slightly beneath the blanket and unconsciously moved a little closer to the warmth beside you, Keonho’s heart felt impossibly full.
He had spent so much time wondering how he could possibly get you to notice him that he’d forgotten something important.
Maybe he didn’t need to do anything extraordinary.
Maybe being there was enough.
Later that night, when everyone was getting ready to leave, you stopped him at the door.
“Keonho?”
He turned around.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For today. And the book. And everything, actually.”
He smiled. “You don’t have to thank me.”
“I know.”
You hesitated for a moment, then looked at him with a small smile.
“But I want to.”
Keonho’s chest tightened.
You continued, “You always seem to notice when I’m having a bad day. And you remember the smallest things I say. I don’t know how you do it, but… I appreciate it.”
He looked at you for a moment, suddenly unsure of what to say.
Then he laughed softly.
“I guess I just pay attention.”
You smiled.
“I noticed.”
Those two words stayed with him all night.
You noticed.
After months of wondering whether his feelings were invisible, after all the little gestures and quiet acts of kindness, after every excuse he’d made to spend a few more minutes beside you, you had noticed.
Keonho walked home that night with the biggest smile on his face, feeling lighter than he had in weeks. He still didn’t know where his feelings would lead. He didn’t know whether you felt the same way, and he wasn’t going to assume that you did. For once, though, he wasn’t desperate for an answer.
He was happy simply knowing that you had begun to see him.
And perhaps that was what being hopelessly devoted really meant.
It wasn’t grand gestures or impossible sacrifices. It wasn’t about proving that he cared more than anyone else. It was remembering the little things, showing up when it mattered, listening when you spoke, and quietly choosing your happiness whenever he had the chance.
Keonho didn’t know what would happen next.
But he knew one thing for certain.
If you let him, he would keep showing up.
Again and again.
Not because he expected anything from you, but because somewhere along the way, caring about her had become one of the easiest things he’d ever done.
And maybe, just maybe, one day you would look at him and realise that the boy who always remembered your favourite seat, your favourite drink, the books you wanted to read and the little things that made you smile had been hopelessly devoted to you all along.
