A new front view rendering (image provided by S9 Architects for the future home of Hip Hop History and Culture (Universal Hip Hop Museum). This is the realization of 9 1/2 years of sacrifice, commitment and hard work to ensure that a history that was started by black and brown youth is properly preserved, archived and celebrated.

Many design, programming and operating details are still being worked out, but I can assure everyone that this museum will be like none other. A leading edge multi-dimensional cultural institution anchored in the South Bronx, that not only curates one of America’s greatest treasures, but also serves as an educational, economic and workforce development resource. The UHHM has a greater cultural and social responsibility to not only ensure that future generations have access to our history, but to provide future resources and entrepreneurial programs to empower the people who live in the community.

Repost @uhhmuseum ・・・ Today we want to give thanks to 2 of our main curators at [R]Evolution of Hip Hop, Paradise Gray & Prime Minister Pete Nice 🙏🏾 Their archive game is 🔥 ................................................... Paradise Gray is the Chief Curator & Advisory Board Member of The Universal Hip Hop Museum. He is a Hip Hop historian & legend from the South Bronx who was mentored by pioneering DJs, and has a collection of Hip Hip artifacts preserved beginning in 1979. He was entertainment manager, booking agent & host of the world-famous Hip Hop club, “The Latin Quarter,” which was the incubator of “The Golden Era of Hip Hop” from 1986 – 1988. Paradise is an archivist, author, photographer, & produced 9 albums including 2 classic albums with his legendary messenger group “X-Clan.” Paradise worked at RUSH Productions/Def Jam Recordings, & Mp3.com. He helped to develop the world’s first online music company. Prime Minister Pete Nice was a founding member of the Def Jam Recordings group 3rd Bass & released two gold albums for the label from 1989 to 1992. His career in Hip Hop began in 1985 as a solo MC managed by Lumumba Carson and in 1987 he established the first Hip Hop radio show with DJ Clark Kent on WKCR at Columbia University. In 1992 he founded Hoppoh Recordings & released the albums of Kurious and Count Bass D & also managed the Elektra rap group KMD featuring MF Doom. He has worked as a historian & consultant with artists & collectors dedicated to preserving Hip Hop artifacts & history. He is currently working on a book with Paradise Gray entitled, “The Golden Age of Hip Hop 1983-1992: An Illustrative History.” ..................................................
