Imagine this: The Hero and the Villain having a son together. The Hero being the guardian and the Villain visiting every weekend.
I have imagined and I adore, but writing up was a little tricky. There’s some good fluff but a bit of drama in the background. Voila!
Villain rubbed the back of their neck as they waited for the door to open. It had been a hard week for them, trying to stop Other Villain and caring for their family wasn’t easy. Constantly they feared being followed, leading someone back to the house. The door opened to show Hero, and their son ducked under Hero’s arm.
“[Daddy/ Mummy!]” Villain’s son leapt into Villain’s arms
“Hey, little man!” Villain beamed, picking them up and raising them in the air. “Ah, I’ve missed you!”
Villain pulled them in close and hugged them, longer than usual. Holding onto their little boy made all of their struggles worth it. It kept them safe.
“[Son], why don’t you go and wash your hands ready for dinner?” Hero said gently.
Villain let go of their son, somewhat reluctantly and smiled. Their son disappeared out of view and Hero sighed. “Rough week?”
“You can say that again. It’s getting worse out there every day.”
“I’ve noticed. I don’t know how you’re going to keep control of all this and retire,” Hero said.
“I will. I just need [Other Villain] out the way… Come on, let’s get something to eat.”
“Can we go to the park?” Son asked as he tucked into his baked potato.
Hero looked to Villain who winced. They thought for a moment before smiling, “Sure, kiddo. But we can’t spend too long. Finish your dinner first though, yeah?”
“Okay!”
“You want me to come with you?” Hero asked. Villain nodded gratefully. “We’ll get back before dark.”
Hero and Villain were both on edge as their son ran down the hill giggling. They weren’t sure what they needed to look out for.
“What happened this week?” Hero asked.
“[Other Villain] is trying to take over my side of the city. There’s been a few close calls. Ever since you stopped being a hero, villains are rushing to get more control… I guess I’m being a hero and a villain at the minute.”
Hero sighed, “I see… Well, this weekend, you’re neither. You’re a parent. Now go and play with you little boy. I’ll keep an eye on you both.”
Villain smiled and kissed Hero on the cheek. “Thank you.”
“Daad/Muum, come give me a push!”
Hero smiled, “You heard the boss.”
Villain grinned. “Race you.”
Hero and Villain raced down the hill, towards their son, his face bright with laughter. Villain went inside the fenced play area to help their son on the swing.
“Hold on tight. Ready?”
Villain pushed them for a while, their son shouting “Higher! Higher!” to the point Hero winced at how high they were going.
From there it was the monkey bars, Villain held onto their hips and helped them to cross. “Wow! You’re really strong!” Villain exclaimed as they crossed.
“Great job!” Hero added with a smile, but their focus had to be on the few people around them.
When they helped them down to the floor Villain grinned, “Let me feel them muscles.” Their son bent their arm to show off a bicep, nothing more than squidge, but Villain poked it and acted shocked. “Wow, buddy. I bet you’re even stronger than [Hero]!”
“You think so?!” their son beamed. Villain nodded and grinned.
They played for a long while until Hero cleared their throat. Villain got the message at once. “Come on, little man. We’ll get home. We can make a pillow fort!”
“I can paint you some pictures!” their son beamed.
“Oh, I can’t wait to see! Come on, I’ll give you a piggyback.”
Son stood on the park bench so Villain could help them on. It was a faster way to get home, but still fun.
Hero and Villain exchanged looks. Nothing about their lives could ever be easy.
