“We need to practice our smiles!”
i have never wanted to tell a 10 year old to fuck off so badly.
i have a little question regarding the most recent page: does Damien not think of himself as Devil Boy anymore? is that because he's maturing or because of the new name he picked?
I will be dealing with the "devil boy" thing a little later but the comic will go in to explore more how the "devil boy" is more of a role concept title thing than damien himself. So yes he is growing out of it (partially because he moved out of the abusive household that forced it on him and is having time to deconstruct, partially because he has gained a new name and doesnt need the moniker in his life as much anymore, he has friends and a boyfriend and ambitions that either diverge or don't require it anymore) he just currently has trouble letting go of it completely because it's what he's been for (tommorow is its birthday lol) like 4 years in world (likely more). Something I also want to explore that was kind of the point behind the two parter To be the antichrist/when the antichrist's an angel is that the title of devil boy is transferable and characters like Angel or later on Mildew could take on the role as well (although indirectly). Basically the Devil Boy is more of a concept that Damien made his whole identity but as his world grows past it it's something he'll have to learn to shed eventually.
Being continuosly "the guy who is the most evil" just opens you up to self loathing and little more. It doesn't offer any ground for growth, it stifles it, it puts you in a box where you either perform evil or convince yourself that all your performances are inherently evil as a result of your state of being. It's an unsustainable state of being that will have to be broken one way or another and simply growing out of it while hard because breaking out of any identity is, as it is shedding a form of protection and letting your new one be fresh and vulnerable, it is something that needs to be done. Damien cannot keep on being the Devil Boy forever, and it's ok.
quindi qualcuno si è fatto ricoverare per distogliere l'attenzione dei media dalla finale di Champions, I see
I can’t tweak Damien’s design a second time……..
Unless.
Really hate having to consider my mental stability. I would prefer to just run like a machine.
