It was not easy to catch Jasper off-guard. In fact, it was almost physically impossible. She hardly needed to rest. Her senses were heightened beyond human comprehension- aside from touch, but that was all but unnecessary. What she couldn’t see she could often hear- especially after being trapped at the SOUNDLESS bottom of the sea. Even if the source of the noise was trying to be as quiet as possible. Even if it was as quiet as tennis shoes- new, polished- scuffing against the ground.
Jasper turned, knowingly. Behind her, yards away, was a young human. At least, she HOPED it was young. If that was their largest form, they were even sorrier than she expected. It was slender, and trembled, and looked at her with eyes wide enough to reflect the sky. It was like looking at a snowflake- though Jasper wouldn’t have made the comparison herself. She only knew that this CREATURE was fleeting- made of something insubstantial and spindly. Organic and soft- weak, weak, WEAK. She believed that if she reached out to touch the human, they might just dissolve inwards- bones concaving and compressing into nothing. And yet, as pathetic as their form might be... they might know something.
Jasper had been alone for weeks- putting as much distance between her and the Traitors as possible until she developed a plan. After plenty of rumination, her plan was, down to the letter: to walk back and punch them so hard they died to death. So here she was. Looking for those Crystal Gems- and, admittedly, completely lost.
So she leaned forward, dwarfing this tiny being in front of her.
“ Where is ROSE QUARTZ? ”
