Headcanon
When Shura was in his mid/late teens, he did sleep around quite a bit, behind his parents back. In secret. Eventually he ended up meeting a noble whom he quickly fell for. It wasn’t love, it was a silly crush, which would later end in tragedy.
He slept with him, and it lasted for a few years until he eventually talked him into abandoning his family to run away with him. Didn’t end well. The noble’s father, who was a lord of some fancy estate, found out about the relationship and sent people after this secret lover who had blackened his son’s heart with such hideously indecent acts.
Shura got away and managed to stay anonymous, but his lover was locked away for sodomy. Some said he was disowned and later hanged, but what happened with the guy is uncertain.
To this day, Shura regrets it more than words can describe, which is why he has such trouble accepting the avatar’s love, or anyone’s love for that matter.
