LUNAR EFFECT

Few weeks ago our chilean friend Unonueve was invited by KolorCubes, to paint this mural in Kassel, Germany.

Since ancient times the moon symbolizes the closure of a cycle - the culmination and output of a rising moon. This phase reflects the wholeness and stands for the moment of truth - your most important decisions - the outcome of your projects and showing yourself inside out. Its the time to confess our feelings and connect with the universe. 

This mural painted in Kassel , Germany represents that closure - the artist personal "coming full circle" by learning from past travels and preparing himself for next ones to come.

KRAKEN

Last November Unonueve painted this colorful mural entitled “Kraken” for the Biocultural festival, in collaboration with the contemporary art festival in Manizales, Colombia.

“The Kraken (Norwegian word meaning "legendary sea monster") is a marine creature of Scandinavian and Finnish mythology commonly described as a type of giant octopus or squid, dangerous frequenter of all seas, especially those of the North and which appears to often in the chronicles of ancient navigators. Emerging from the depths, he attacked ships and devoured seafarers.

It is said that the Kraken measured more than two miles and had long, strong tentacles, capable of coiling easily on the masts of ships and thus, taking them to the bottom of the sea. The survivors told the story of the monster of the seas that, according to legend, appeared along the coasts of Norway and Iceland. The legend may actually have originated from sightings of giant royal squids that would be estimated to be 13 to 15 meters long, including the tentacles. The name of Kraken is usually associated with the giant squid species "Architeuthis Dux", of which little is known today, due to the great depth it inhabits.

Homer already speaks in the Odyssey of a perverse creature called SCRIP with which Ulysses had to face. Advancing in history, many were the artists who embodied in their works the terrible actions of these ferocious animals. The first stories about the Kraken, dating from the twelfth century, in Norway, referring to a creature the size of an island. In 1752, when the bishop of Bergen, Erik Ludvigsen Pontoppidan, wrote his Natural History of Norway, he described the Kraken as a "floating island" of one and a half miles. He also wrote: "It seems these are the arms of the creature (The Kraken), and, it is said that if they grabbed the larger man of war, they would drag him to the bottom." In time, the Kraken's stories would make it less big, but just as monstrous”.

Last July we hosted Unonueve in Amsterdam with the support of  the National fund of culture and arts from Chile. During his residence in Amsterdam we organized and curated a mural for the chilean artist entitled “Capricorn” and he was part of our Sea Container project with an intervention entitled “Makara”.

Also he worked in our studio, on a new series of watercolors characteristic of his line of work. Now this original watercolor are available at our online store:

Sylph, Elemental of Air

Inspired by the Sylphs, Uno nueve created this marvelous watercolor. Sylphs are neutral beings, friendly in nature. They keep the young aspect during all your life and they speak in a musical language, typical of the magical beings with whom they are related.

Ritual masks

This 2 watercolors are inspired by ancestral chilean masks used to create an union between the divinity, the life and the death, also can be used to contact spiritual powers of protection against the unknown forces of the universe and the triumph of life.

Goblin house

Inspired by the popular european culture and myths about elves, goblins, fairies... Unonueve created this colorful watercolor as a possible representation of a chaotic goblin house, where those supernatural being causes noises and disorders.

Sunset

Following the study of esoteric astrology the artist illustrated this “Sunset” because it speaks to us of the inner essence of the person and his true nature. It is the principle of conscience and will; being one of the key points for the interpretation of the mental and spiritual nature of the person.

MAKARA

Last week the chilean artist Unonueve finished this colorful painting/installation at our Sea Container Project in Amsterdam. (With the support of The National fund of culture and arts from Chile)

This artwork is an homage to Makara, a marine creature of Hindu mythology.

In general it is represented as an average terrestrial creature, marine medium. The upper part of his torso usually presents the constitution of a terrestrial animal, such as a deer. The lower part has an aquatic animal tail.

Makara is the vehicle of the goddess of the river Ganges and the sea of the Varuna sea. It is also the symbol of the astrological sign of Capricorn, one of the twelve symbols of the zodiac.
