Patrick Speaks – Unreported World | Channel 4
I recently came across this video on Reddit. It is sponsored by Channel 4 as part of their series Unreported World. In the clip, the host meets a 15-year-old Patrick, who was born deaf. As a result of no access to education for deaf children, Patrick has never had a conversation.
Where Patrick lives, there is minimal access to education for deaf children. This lack of communication skills leads to a lack of social skills. This can leave a person lonely or in fear.
Watching this video makes me think of the things we take for granted. Every day, many Canadians are able to understand and respond to social queues and conversations. Take a moment to think about never being able to communicate with another person. It is a touching and emotional experience.
This clip sheds light on the issue of education in Sub-Saharan regions in Africa.
Take a look at this spectacular video of a Ugandan class learning to communicate through sign language.
The video is only a short clip of a 30- minute documentary called 15 and Learning to Speak.
