“What is a bookshelf other than a treasure chest for a curious mind.” Empty bookshelves, freshly painted, and I’m trying a neutral layout against the pretty blue next to my desk in the office. I’m so excited the repairs are almost done and I can focus on the fun of arranging books. My kids and husband don’t really understand, but I’m sure you in the #writingcommunity #bookstagrammer friends all do! Fun questions like, whether to arrange by author or color of the spine. By topic or emotions it evokes. An empty bookshelf, ready to be filled, feels like a new beginning. New hope. New optimism. I’ve been working hard on my manuscript and edits and it’s like a second scoop of ice cream getting to this part of the project that began as a real challenge with ripping apart a very wet, moldy room and creating something new with our kids and some help during this time in quarantine. My son and I are getting ready for college application process and I asked him, “What is something you learned during the Covid lockdown?” He said, “That time with my family is really important, it’s really good.” (She commences melting.) Wow. Like getting a present since he just turned 18 and his dreams are taking flight. What an honor to watch it happen from the sidelines, and, at the same time, prepare for my own renewed dreams to come alive too. As we come through this difficult season of life, I’m also trying to savor times like this with my kids. And, with a smile, to remember like the #unsinkablemollybrown (old movie reference) “Nobody wants to see me down like I wants to see me up.” :) My mother gave me this wonderful painted box (scroll for close up) depicting the fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers, #TheFrogPrince that will sit over my shoulder, reminding me to focus on beauty and bring my story to life. Take a breath today, savor something good, and don’t let the difficulties define you. If we give thanks in everything, perhaps God can even turn it for good. How do you feel about empty bookshelves? The only really touristy thing our group did in Denver was the Molly Brown House Museum. It was a gorgeous home, but even more interesting to hear about the life of this activist who advanced rights for women and children. The first time I toured the #MollyBrownHouse I was 10-year-old and I was in #GirlScouts!! We had a nice Mother/Daughter Tea too! ☕️ Today, I got to tour it again with my DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Friends!!! It was a wonderful day with my mom too!! I got to check another thing off my bucket list on this vacation! We stopped by Molly Brown's house in Denver.
