REY COULD FEEL HER HEART pounding in her chest, harder than she thought she might have ever heard it before. She knew how it felt for her heart to be beating hard and fast, knew how adrenaline felt when it was coursing through her. This was different. This was the kind of life that one could only feel when it came rushing back into your body, filling and coursing and crashing. She gasped aloud when she remembered that breathing was necessary and the young Jedi turned to face the man that sat beside her, that held her up.
❝ This fight. Beside you. It was-something else. ❞ That was definitely an understatement, she knew, but she didn’t know how to word exactly what they’d been through at that very moment. Instead, she wiped the blood from the edge of her lip and her forehead on the bandages on her wrist. It smeared a little across her face, but the pain was numb. Instead, all she felt was the Force, the strength of a dyad bond and the power that had guided them forward, that had destroyed the Emperor who had been talking in Ben’s ear his whole life. ❝ I didn’t expect any of this. I don’t know how to feel. ❞
And she didn’t. But she also didn’t have time to dwell on it, because the ground beneath them began to rumble and Rey took a sharp breath in. ❝ You feel that, right? We need to get out of here, Ben. Can you walk? ❞ She’d been unconscious. His life ran through her veins and hers through his. He’d given her part of himself to keep her breathing and now there they sat as rocks came tumbling down from the altar that held the Sith throne.
She tried to sit, to push herself to stand, but she realised she herself would need help to her feet. ❝ How do we get out of this place? ❞
