.Gitignore / untrack files in Git
To ignore a certain folder, just add the directory name to .gitignore (in your repository root)
Note: .gitignore does not apply retroactively - if you've previously told git to track those files (with git add), you'll have to remove them from tracking before git will ignore them. (source)
To remove files from git (stop git tracking),
git rm --cached filename
This command doesn't actually delete your file, just removes them from git. After removing the files, update .gitignore to ignore the files or directory. (source)
