there’s one thing about grant since the day she’d met him. he’s reliable. there. even when octavia spent the majority of their first months as friends and even together expecting the opposite, he’d shown her different. it’s why she can’t wrap her head around it when isabella’s principal phones her to let her know that no one had been around to collect bella from school. grant had been expected there nearly an hour ago.

by the time she’s got bella home and set with a snack, octavia’s called grant twenty times at least. he’s not answering, not always unusual but her angers fuming the longer the rings go unanswered. if he couldn’t help today  — why not just admit that? they were fine. octavia could handle her responsibilities herself but.

brows furrow at the unfamiliar voice on the other line that finally answers. “ hello? who’s this? ” the nurse on the phone speaks and suddenly isabella’s cartoons meld with the ringing in her ears, trying to understand. grants at tondc general. he’d gotten to the hospital but was nearly unconscious by then. octavia doesn’t understand. can’t really put it all together and there’s not much they can tell her on the phone.

she’s quick to get kane from the floor down to agree to watch isabella because she can’t take her with. doesn’t know what she’s walking into but knows she has to get there. suddenly, the anger she’d felt melted into panic as she made her way to the hospital.

          "thanks for this."   it's a murmur as he slumps into the seat, eyes already closing as he tips his head back carefully. buck's more than a little sore, and his raw throat leaves his voice scratchy, but he feels better than he had a few hours before. right now all he wants is his bed, and maybe some cuddles from his favorite dog in the entire world.   "the team had to go finish their shift, and i didn't want to drag maddie out with the baby, ya know?"   he hadn't even wanted to tell his sister that he'd been hospitalized again, but he knew if he didn't that chimney would, and that'd just lead to a lecture later on down the road. he wasn't even going to touch on the fact that he could've technically called anyone from the firehouse and they would've come  (  bobby had specifically told him he could  ), because he just didn't have the mental or emotional capacity to deal with why he hadn't. he knew that grant would come, with minimal questions, and only a pinch of exasperation.

        LIKE A FERAL ANIMAL WHEN IT’S INJURED AND DISPLACED, SHARP TEETH BARED itself out of protection and defense. the fight took a turn, slight turn as injury was always expected but never welcome. samantha sought to her options, cut them down to pieces to create her exit as she escapes. it was a race down an alleyway, familiar by nature as they were all narrow and grossly filled to the brim with darkness and dim street lamps. and like a feral animal, the nearest attack, the slightest movement was her cue to strike back before they did. if she had to admit something, it wasn’t to go after grant’s neck. he wasn’t her concern at the moment --the surviving members that follow the kgb’s footsteps were (or at least, they were seemingly still alive somehow.) adrenaline pumps through her veins, glock pointed right between the eyes of a wanted man, tension so thick that it couldn’t be sliced in half right away.

          i’m not gonna hurt you --like he hasn’t before. a lie through his teeth? an opportunity to finish her off while she was half way down? maybe. maybe not. what cycled in her system was the amount of anguish that she struggles to maintain in her expression. she refuses to speak, keeping a straight, tight aim with every bit of strength she’s got. his movements were slow, she can hear the howl of her beast echoing in her ears, pushing her to take the shot. forgiveness was earned. it had to be earned. she wasn’t the only person he tried to screw over. in her weak state, her lips were thinned out, trapping her teeth from showing her fangs. she hears a softer plea, a cautious step in her direction was taken as well --i’m just here to help.

           now that was something she doesn’t get to hear very often. not from him anymore. she kept her distance, eyed the other with her tightened jaw. there’s a fine line that he could cross. ever since his exposure and defect, nothing has been directed towards her. he could’ve taken very opportunity to attack and dismantle.  but he didn’t. and that’s what makes her weary. if she gets too comfortable, if his fangs would bare themselves at her neck before she did that to him,  “  --you’ve been tailing me?  ”  not the best to ask but she couldn’t help herself. some information would be nice to fill in the blanks. it’s very possible that he could have. maybe not for the sake of her aid but for the sake of seeing if opportunity would present itself. she’s weary in her steady low tone. unfortunately the pain was more overbearing,  “  no hospitals. you know the drill.  ”

then   baby   put   on   a   smile,   tell   me   you   love   me,   tell   me   we're   going   out,   tell me   that   i'm   your   everything,   but   baby   don't   leave   me.   why   would   you   think   of doing   such   a   thing?   these   were   the   thoughts   that   spiraled   through   her   head   as she   looked   at   him,   large   blue   eyes   full   of   confusion   as   he   took   her   hand,   her own   gripping   his   tightly   in   her   fingers.   the   whiteness   of   her   knuckles   be   told   her strength   as   she   looked   down,   hiding   the   fear   that   was   sinking   slowly   into   the   pit of   her   stomach   like   a   rock   that'd   never   see   the   sun   again.   "then   why  ....   can   you   explain   why   you   think   you   need   to   leave?"   she   wouldn’t be   weak,   not   now,   not   because   he   thought   he   had   to   leave   her. he   didn’t   love   her    because   she   was   a   soft   and    delicate   flower, he   loved   her   because   of   her   strength,   because   of   the   iron   core  that   made   up   her   entire   being.   she   was   soft   for   him,   not   because that   was   her   natural   inclination.   she   could   survive   without   him,   and she   would,   but   it   didn’t   mean   she   wanted   too.   but   she   wouldn’t beg,   she’d   rather   watch   him   walk   away   before   doing   that,   even   if  a   part   of   her   screamed   to   do    just   that. // @unworthyheart

shield was dead in the water, so many things had happened to kill it, hydra, people turning over and giving things up, everything was going wrong and yet --- he sucked in a soft breath as he looked at the communication he’d barely been able to understand so garbled and old that he’d barely been able to decode it. coulson was still out there, still trying. so he switched directions, letting them do what they wanted to do, instead he was aiming for the man that had ruined everything. he wanted to have a conversation with him, and he wanted it to be private. seeing the man in question on the plane ---- so fucking foolish to be standing in the open and so unaware. he could see the distress on his face. it was easy to slip on, he blended in, just another faceless flunkie with hydra as he slipped up the walkway and onto the bus. finding him was even easier, seemed as if he was in charge here, even if what he’d overheard pointed at him not quite trusting his S.O. “seems as if you’re the person that’s in charge here, so what’s the orders boss?”                   //      @unworthyheart
