I cleaned up the last of my stuff at the art building this evening, and ended up thinking about what I've learned in my undergraduate career. Art isn't talent, it's absolutely hard work. Art is about working your butt off, only to fail again and again. Art is about asking the hard questions, and the pointless ones too. Art is learning to shut up and listen. Art is about that moment, when you realize you finally did it right, and you can't help but run around the print shop with your hands thrust triumphantly in the air for 5 minutes. Kim Martinez once said "The only difference between you and me is that I've made more bad paintings."
