Since there is no HD version of Xena, I still attest that the best visual quality you can get for the show is the Anchor Bay DVDs. The graphics were enhanced slightly from the TV broadcast version. Unfortunately though, there was not much they could do for the early seasons because they were filmed in 16mm - which was all they were afforded until the show itself started picking up in popularity and surpassed Hercules in broadcast ratings
The best you’ll ever get from it is what they did with the Anchor Bay deluxe collector’s sets in Seasons 1 and 2. Yes, the episodes look grainy and slightly washed out but that’s not due to doing a bad job. It’s just how the show itself actually looks because of how they filmed it.
Anything beyond what Anchor Bay entertainment did would have resulted in a mess in other ways, so you’ve just got to bear it. The visual quality picks up in Season 3 because it’s then that they started filming in 24mm.
Thankfully, it’s Anchor Bay ones that I have uploaded and it’s way better than what you’ll find on streaming services or on any of the latest repackaged DVD sets because they don’t care about preserving media now.
We’re the ones that need to do it now because we care.
Each episode is over 1GB for a reason. You’ve got to sacrifice storage capacity if you want visual quality.
Streaming doesn’t look so good but the downloads do.
