Dank cave, musty, earthy, chlorinated, humid, wet, fresh smell ... okay, these are words someone on Reddit used to describe the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. But we could be talking about Jacaranda, a funky, tart saison from Upright Brewing, a collaboration with Superflux Beer Company. Before you think this is a negative review, note I gave it a 4.25/5 on Untapped. Maybe it’s the open fermentation with Upright’s house yeast blend. Maybe because the beer matured in a mix of vermouth and gewurztraminer casks for two months with brett, then bottle conditioned. Maybe it was finding this great Fodor’s Travel article after a goggle search for “smell of Pirates of the Caribbean.” A tasty and interesting beer. - aw
Perfect pairing and activity for this day - Upright Sole Composition Six (5th & final round #53/108) and home made straight out of the oven Ginger Snaps. Yum.
This evening we also tasted this just lovely dry tart vinous fruity mildly spiced/funked Expansions (Frequencies... one-off series) by Upright Brewing (Portland, OR), a saison aged in oak casks with Gewürztraminer grapes.
