For the WIP game! (And no worries! Late replies and even never are always okay in my book. I know how it goes!)
I haven't heard of June of Doom before and had to go check it out. Those are some good prompts! I like the ones you chose. It made it hard to pick XD Let's go with "Someone had to do it", and if you feel like doing a second, "touch starved".
I am so good at going, "Oooo someone tagged me in a thing! I should do that later" and then forgetting about it for a minimum of 2 weeks XD Honestly what really appealed to me about June of Doom was the fact this year's prompts were dropped almost as soon as last year's event ended, so it feels less stressful then prompt months that drop the prompts the month before (Does not mean I'm not doing the last minute scramble tho lol)
So your snippets! Both are for Honkai: Star Rail, and I'll give a little background, some vibes, and a snippet for each
Day 10: "Someone had to do it"
That moment when you're told someone you care about deeply has to die for the sake of the universe and you volunteer to do it because it might as well be you
Canon background: Kafka and Stelle have a still semi-mysterious backstory together but it's Very Clear they were close pre-canon, but Stelle has very few memories of pre-canon because reasons. This fic assumes that Kafka has spent enough time rebuilding the trust between them as best she can given they both now belong to two rival factions, so this is very much a Betrayal™
Honestly probably my favorite of these fics so far <3
Somebody has to do it, Kafka reminds herself as Stelle turns and lights up at the sight of here. Those golden eyes that once had looked at her like she had hung the stars. Those golden eyes that she had spent so long chasing the suspicion from. Those golden eyes that shine in the neon lights of the city now.
“Kafka! What are you doing here?” Stelle catches herself, rocking back on her heels, and Kafka aches at the motion of a hug she will never receive again.
Careful to keep her face smooth and blank, careful to keep her voice toneless- don’t let her hear any affection, don’t let give her an idea that there might be a chance- Kafka raises her gun and says, “Hello, Stelle.”
Bullying Dan Heng hours (affectionate)
Introspection-y hurt/comfort
You are perfectly fine and the thought of someone stroking your hair absolutely does not make you cry into your pillow
Canon background: Dan Heng got to spend an unspecified amount of time growing up in a prison, then he's released and exiled from his home where he then proceeds to spend more unspecified time running from a guy trying to kill him for his past incarnation's crimes. At some point, he joins Himeko and Welt on the Astral Express, and this fic is set somewhere during his early days on the Express
*throws tomatoes at Dan Heng for being a pain in the ass to write*
Why is he so hungry he shakes? The ghostly feeling of a warm hand stroking his hair and a gentle voice whispering comforting promises in his ear rises unbidden to mind until he’s drowning in it. A waterfall streams over his eyelashes, and he buries breathy, hiccuping sobs into his borrowed blankets.
He just doesn’t understand. He’s fine. Better than fine even. He has blankets and pillows and a room he can leave, all the food he could ever want to eat, and safety from the man who’s determined to hunt him down.
So… why?
