This is the Creed of my sorority Alpha Delta Pi. I have never really fully payed attention to what it states until tonight. This is what it states and what I think about it's statements:
"I believe in Alpha Delta Pi. I believe that my sorority is more than a ritual or a symbol; that it is a way of life."
Exactly. It's not just greek letters put on a shirt for a title over other people. It's not just an excuse to go to parties or meet "frat boys." It's not something to just "be" in, it's something to feel as well. Just like you can't waltz through life, you can't waltz through the privilege of being in Alpha Delta Pi and the blessings it brings. We Live For Each Other.
"I believe that the principles established by our founders in 1851 are enduring attributes, exemplifying the highest ideals of Christian womanhood."
"I believe that our motto, "We Live For Each Other," expresses the true spirit of fraternity; and that by living this motto my life will be enriched by true friendships and by unselfish service to mankind."
Our open motto, "We Live For Each Other," remains close to my heart. I have been gifted with a caring nature and have been told I have a big heart my whole life. "We Live For Each Other" is my personality and what I try to do for my sisters whenever they need me too. We're all human and sometimes humans make mistakes, but it's life and we learn from those mistakes. My sisters let me know when I make these mistakes and help me grow from them, not tear me back down and let me fail. This is something that really makes me love Alpha Delta Pi. We are known for our sisterly bond at any chapter and dropping anything and everything we're doing if one of us are in trouble. It's the kind hearts that created Alpha Delta Pi and keep it going now in the future. We Live For Each Other.
"I believe that the privilege of membership in Alpha Delta Pi brings the responsibility to do my best in whatever I undertake, always remembering that leadership requires confidence tempered with humility and courage blended with tolerance."
I know that all my sisters are supportive of one another. If someone wants to run for a position in the house we try and make sure we support them and vote them into the position we believe they will excel in as well as make our chapter and sorority as a whole improve. We support one another in extracurricular, education, goals and dreams, and whatever life chooses to hand us. We encourage each other to be the best we can be and love each other no less no matter if we succeed or fail. We are each other's back bones. We Live For Each Other.
"I believe that I must strive to become a well-balanced person by following the dictates of the four points symbolized by our diamond-shaped badge: first, strengthening my own character and personality; second, watching my own attitude toward my fellow-beings; third, recognizing the value of high educational standards; and fourth, developing faith and loyalty."
Reading the four points stated above has re-balanced me as a person. Such power in four points to refresh myself spiritually, emotionally, and mentally is amazing. Joining Alpha Delta Pi has been an amazing experience. In one short year I have grown into a woman and become more responsible, wiser, and understanding of what I want out of life and what I want to leave behind. My sisters have helped me grow to this point and it's amazing I get to share this journey with them as we all grow into strong, loyal, and kind-hearted women together. They bring me back down if I'm acting too silly but they never let me shoot less than the stars when it comes to fulfilling my dreams. We Live For Each Other.
"I believe that these four guide-posts, guarded by the stars and friendly hands clasped in the Adelphean bonds of fellowship, will lead me to achieve a rich and useful life."
The clasped hands bind us together in a sisterhood that is so unbreakable it overcomes the worst that can be brought out of us. Jealousy, Greed, Hatred, Insecurity, Doubtful, Wrath. It reminds us that we are all sisters growing with each other through the thick and thin but that we always have the bond between us to pick our chins up and keep going. We have the lion to be strong and confident, taking on anything that is thrown our way. We have the diamond that allows us to be unique and bring out our special personalities to make us shine. We have the Pearl to be true to one another and to ourselves. And We have the violets to be kind and sweet in our everyday lives. This is what it means to be in Alpha Delta Pi. We Live For Each Other.
