On Friday, Up the Chain celebrated the release of The Prison Break at Johnny Brenda's with friends Hezekiah Jones and Purples. UTC played the album in its entirety, inviting to the stage guests who had played on the album: Dan Schwartz of Good Old War, Vanessa Winters of The Lawsuits, Kyle Perella of Levee Drivers, Matt Kelly of Poin Curse, and Justin Pellechia of Satellite Hearts. Up the Chain knows how to make a crowd feel good, and the excellent three-band lineup built the vibes perfectly. Lead singer Reed Kendall has always excelled at writing catchy, heartfelt songs, but with Kirby Sybert, Noah Skaroff, and newly-added keys player John Hildebrand, he's developed as a frontman (as well as behind the scenes in the studio). The Prison Break is the full-length debut for this lineup, and if the high-energy release party is any indication, it's going to spread a lot of good energy.
