something that's been bothering me is that weird excuse used to focus on rey and kylo and not (seriously) include Luke/Leia/Lando/Han is that they need to focus on new characters for EACH TRILOGY but like...1, I'm preaching to the choir saying this BUT they stopped focusing on Finn who was a huge new character. 2, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin were huge influences on both the prequels AND the originals and it didn't take away from anyone else's development? Am I missing something?????

u sure aren’t! they just made something up because they didn’t want to answer for their deliberate tunnel vision applied to rey and kylo. like rather than have the OT characters be guides and active participants, even in the background, or as like…the new officials in the background “war” part of the star wars… in a substantial or satisfying way at all, they used them for cameos… like…yoda wasn’t a cameo in the PT, he was a character. obi wan, anakin, they were characters.

the ONLY of the OT ppl even given the chance to be a character and not a cameo were leia and han, and ONLY in TFA. han’s role was really teetering the line between cameo and character, but he was allowed to have scenes where you could feel the change han has gone through, and that his presence in the story was important, however short-lived his return was.

liea almost didn’t even get that. she had presence, but no added depth that felt in character. we see the strength in her that’s been present since the OT but…in the present? what do we learn about her? we learn she trained with luke…in the LAST movie, where her screen time is severely limited in a soul-crushing way. she was a relief to see. one of the only warm hugs to the OT characters we got besides lando, but it still felt very hollow to me overall. I still feel like I, as an audience member, had to fill in the blanks when it could easily have been said or alluded to.

lando. a cameo. a cameo with potential to be a character (which was just…cut entirely from the movie), and a cameo i genuinely felt ecstatic about, but a cameo. chewie, even tho he was present in every movie in the ST, felt like a prop outside of 2 specific moments in TFA and TROS. threepio….literally a prop like the only one used more as a prop was artoo.

like. why. what was the point? it wasn’t to focus on “new characters” because it funneled on 2 (white) ppl specifically, and dropped everyone else like a sack of potatoes. we know how i feel about this situation in relation to finn in particular but whew….they did it to EVERYONE. the even did it to rey and kylo both by making them so inconsistent? like.

a failure. a failure by all accounts.
