Do you think anything would have been different if you were born a woman instead of a man? Like certain privileges?
Ah, @lostalienchild .... your question intrigues me.
I suspect my life would have been completely different had a I been born a woman.
To begin with, it would have been infinitely easier to cloak my massive power in the guise of powerlessness. Society dismisses women’s strength. Far more often than not, women have to fight to be noticed for their abilities. As a man, I had to work to appear sympathetic, kind, sweet, and non-threatening. These things are assumed of women, even those for whom such things are difficult. No one would have expected a woman to have the power that I possess.
That would have definitely been a blessing.
Also, I could have used sex as an advantage in a way that I can not as a man, not if I want to remain non-threatening. I would never have fought @uraharasuggestions or @hirakosuggestions, I would have seduced them. And, knowing men--particularly those men--it would have been easy.
I would be less likely, however, to have gained Gin as an ally. @matsumotosuggestions-blog would never have tolerated another woman anywhere near him. On the bright side, I would also not have had Gin as an “ally,” which, in point of fact, nearly cost me the @hogyokusuggestions.
@tousensuggestions is another question mark. Perhaps, I could have replaced his special friend, though that would have left me at a disadvantage when it came to needing to seduce others. Kaname’s loss would have been severe, especially if I didn’t have Gin to do my dirty work to do the work Kyoka Suigetsu often refused me.
It would have been interesting, too, to know whether or not, as a woman, I could catch @hinamorisuggestions‘s eye.
Which leads me to another interesting question. Could I have become captain? Certainly I have the power, but how many female captains currently serve? Two? And only one of them, a fighting position.... Out of twelve? Not very good odds for me. Am I implying that the Gotei is sexist? I do believe I am; after all, there’s no lack of strong women lieutenants. The second captain in service is a healer, which is an “acceptable” female power, and I could not have served in the Fourth. It would never have suited my personality.
So, I would have had to do all that I did stuck as a lieutenant. That’s a major disadvantage for obvious reasons. I think I could have still accomplished much operating in a secondary position--after all, I caused plenty of mischief in my own lieutenancy--but, it’s the biggest drawback I see to this alternate version of my fate.
It’s an interesting question you put to me. One, I suspect I will consider to ponder as I wander Muken.
