Uratarou was a fun little romp. shame it got cancelled the way it did. hard to tell which came first the downward spiral in quality or in ratings. the bare bones feel like they could have been interesting if they'd just been given more room to breath, but at the same time maybe that aimless meandering pace in the first act is why the ratings started failing in the first place, and why the pressure seemed to be placed on the author to move things along. But there's something genuinely interesting about giving a story like this such distinct phases:
First she wants to live forever and he wants to die but is immortal,
then she wants to die and he wants her to live,
and then she's dead and he's mortal, then he wants to live and to bring her back to life,
then he's confronted about wanting to live for her vs living for himself,
and then she comes back to life and he dies...
they do the whole izanagi and izanami thing with the whole, don't look at your gross dead wife bit...
it feels like with better planning this could have genuinely been a really compelling cycle of development to work through more naturally
and there's a neat parallel in how his story starts with a dark twist on momotaro and end on actual momotaro, but also in how she gives birth to both the hero momotaro and the demonlord of onigashima....
