There's this sadness over me

I'm leaving LA in four months, less maybe. And I'm going to leave my boys behind, my best friends... My brothers. And to be quite honest, it breaks my heart that I won't be so close to them. I can only pray that things won't change. Over these past few months, my boys, Andrew, Jason N., Jason P., and Josh have become my life and I love them to death. I hate getting close to people because there always comes a time when you just have to leave, and truth be told, I haven't gotten this emotionally close to people since God knows when Humboldt will be good for me. And my boys will be fine. I just have to enjoy these last few months with them.

Hey readers, this is Jason Nogueda with my first post. I'm the head photographer for The Urban Inquisitor but I do dabble in the writing aspect from time to time. So as we walked up to the school where the dance battle where Constant Movement and Urban Influence were going to throw it down. The positive energy and music were surging through the air and that set the stage for a goodnight. As we entered the dance room, you could feel the excitement and the good vibes but underlying that was the tension. I looked around for a good vantage point for photos but every free space seemed to be filled by eager people wanting the battle to start. The music stopped and the crews were called up to the center for what would be an exhibition of skill and creativity. First to start was Constant movement where their first dancer opened up with some well tied together popping and locking. To that, Urban Influence's Kippy Ebiya, replied with a "swagged out" proformance that left the crowd cheering. This back and forward went on but the most notable things were that while Urban Influence proformed exciting, well timed, and most of all Classic moves with original flow; Constant Movement exhibited popular, trendy, and sadly... played out moves such as: Jerking, Dougieing, and Shuffling. It was clear and easy to say that Urban Influence had the upper hand; until the DJ played a song that had no potential for Urban Influence's flow, but as soon as the song changed they picked up the pace. Unfortunately the easily recognizable moves that Constant Movement displayed sawayed the audience enough for them to decide Constant Movement's victory. Urban Influence was immediately shocked and went outside to their mentor who gave them feed back. We walked near them and over heared their mentor give them advice on them being stumped about the song that caught them like a dear in the headlights. The Constant Movement group had chatter about an after party and I took my chance and asked for a quick photo. This task seemed to be rather difficult for the group as they tried to round every body up, after congratulating them i went back to the Urban Influence side where I was surprised to see that the recent loss did not affect the crew, on the contrary they seemed to pull themselves up like a family. As we walked out and I asked for a picture, they had a playfull brotherly demeanor and happily had their picture taken. In our book Urban Influence took it. To Constant Movement, nothing personal, just observations. You guys both have remarkable talent and love for dance, I hope to be able to capture your growth and expericences pursueing perfection in your arts.

Winter Concert at Lawndale High School: The Jays

"Save the best for last" they always say, and for the Winter Concert they sure abided by the saying. The final stage band to get onstage was The Jays -- Jason Phan, Joshua Plascencia, Jason Nogueda & Jorge Garcia -- finally performing songs originally written by themselves, The Jays' lead vocals, Joshua, open the set with a joke to make the audience confortable, and to give the rest of the band time to be fully prepared.

The Jays played "Abandon Ship" followed by "Games". I was told later by a band member that "Games" was written "...about a relationship where everyone kinda sees [the] problems and so do you but you still keep playing [their] games and in the end, get fucked over by [them]". Nonetheless, the songs were amazing, and executed perfectly, although the audience didn't know the songs by heart, the hearty applause given at the end proved just how great The Jays were. 

The Jays later brought back Ruby Carrillo to cover the song "Misery Business" by Paramore. Joshua handed the microphone over to Ruby, as he moved to the drums, and Jason Phan leaving the drums for a guitar. 

The Jays gave an unforgettable performance, not only tonight but every time they get onstage. Joshua is currently working on a new song, and in late December The Jays will have a small concert-fundraiser to raise money for new equipment, hopefully going from acoustic to electric very soon.
