Interesting.
Under the new post model, flagging a thread's root post as non-rebloggable affects only the root post and any reblogs without comments; reblogs with comments which were made before the root post was made non-rebloggable now remain rebloggable, regardless of the root post's settings.
Further, there doesn't seem to be any mechanism at all for flagging a reblog with comments as non-rebloggable, not even by the reblog's own author; the upshot is that any post that's been reblogged with a comment even once effectively cannot be made non-rebloggable at all.
Between this and rendering nearly all non-first-order reblogs with comments undiscoverable to the author of the original post, I imagine harassment campaigns are going to have a field day!
How it honestly feels. (Feat. My awful handwriting)
I'm so glad that abhorrent update got rolled back. It should have never been put out in the first place. But to be clear @tumblr, nobody on this site cares about reblogs that "gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves." Seriously, think about every iconic tumblr post out there. The weed smoking girlfriends, the colour of the sky, etc. Blaiz and her Hello Kitty tattoo are famous because users on this site care more about committing to the bit than they do about being at the top of the chain. This isn't a popularity contest. Nobody cares who's reblog of OP's post gets the most notes. And even if an individual did care about seeing the impact of their reblog, they already get notified every time someone makes an addition down the chain from them. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is here because they want "credit". They're here because the inability to purposefully gain popularity or steal attention from other blogs is just about the only thing that makes this site more bearable to use than others. Don't try to fix the one part of your site that isn't broken.
