The Mirror at Mark’s

The throbbing audio made everyone's pulse race; the air thick with

the scent of tobacco and "leathered testosterone" .

The hum of a city that didn't know how to stop. It was a place of transition—a waypoint, not a destination.

They met by chance, two men caught in the same orbit, moving through a world that often demands we be something other than ourselves. But in that corner of the bar, under the neon glow, the expectations of the outside world didn't exist.

It was a meeting of mirrors.

There was no need for words, only the sharp, electric recognition of a shared philosophy. To look at him was to look at oneself; to feel that connection was to feel, for the first time, truly seen. It was the paradox of the night: feeling deeply, intensely bound to another soul, while remaining entirely, beautifully free.

They didn't need to tether each other. They didn't need to stay.

When they walked out into the cool night air, they weren't walking away with a lover—they were walking away with their own spirits elevated. Re-calibrated. Reminded that in a world of static, there are others who hear the same frequency.

They parted ways as they met: unbound, alive, and finally understood.

During the Nuku Studio Workshop 2016 each participants and several of the facilitators produced booklets that are, at least for now, limited to editions of only 1. The books are to be seen as works in progress, but also have qualities of their own. They were presented to the audience present on May 10th at Nubuke Foundation, but we share them one by one here too.

This one was made by Eric Gyamfi. Based on it Nubuke Foundation chose him from among the participants to be part of their young artists exhibition at the end of the year.

In ‘Urban Nomads’ Gyamfi gives an insight into places some of the rural-urban migrants in Ghana find to continue their lives. These places are construction sites under development that, temporarily, create their own micro society and economy.
