                Schools Driving Housing Demand in DC Neighborhoods

Urban Turf DC’s real estate blog picked up an analysis of real estate trends reported by Jed Kolko, Chief Economist for Trulia, City Living with Kids: Backpack vs. Stroller Neighborhoods.  Using census data, the analysis indicates that while young adults are drawn to the new urbanism neighborhoods, their interest shifts to neighborhoods with good public schools as their toddlers become school age.   In DC, Foggy Bottom, Logan Circle, and Columbia Heights/Adams Morgan are at the top of the list of neighborhoods attracting young adults who often stay after they marry and begin a family, but decide to move when their children begin to reach school age, and increasingly pre-K.  The Urban Turf headline, Once Kids Start School, Where In DC Do Families Move: Chevy Chase.
