This is more for me than for you, but since you've read the books, I've had a fanart idea that concerns information that may or may not be in them.

How "secret" is the Lost City of Ureh?

I've read in most indirect sources that it was lost to time, but the city has been featured on every official map, starting Diablo II. When I talked to my friend regarding inaccuracies in the map at the beginning of Book of Lorath (which I will not get into), they suggested it might be an in-verse map, which maybe would make sense, but Ureh is still pictured in it.

Don't feel too pressured to answer, I just hope you know what I'm talking about.

Ureh would better be considered more of a legend or myth than a real place people can go. Trying to get into Ureh would be trying to go to Pompeii - sure someone could get to where it used to be. But unless they're a sorcerer whose been studying scraps of information for the better part of two decades, and get extremely lucky about the date and time, all they would find are ruins.

I don't think anyone's really trying to keep it secret. It's just too fantastical for people to reach or care about.

In regards to the Horadrim map, I'd actually blame that on Zayl. He's one of the only two living men to escape Ureh, and joins the Horadrim in Storm of Light. Given the testimonies he provided them in Book of Prava about his order, it would make sense that he'd shared other information as well.

I'm not sure what Kentril Dumon went on to do with himself, but he's the other escapee. Considering his experinces within the city, I don't imagine he's sharing anything about where to find Ureh's remains or how to get in.

It is noted in KoS that the Priests of Rathma as a whole are aware of Ureh, but they are also pretty keen on staying away from it. They know something ain't right about that city. (And they're correct! Low and Behold, Diablo was haunting the place this whole time.) Zayl catches some shit for being a little bit obsessed with the city. I suppose if anyone is keeping secrets about Ureh, it's them.

Presumably other Vizjerei also are aware of the city, as its one of their own who casts a spell allowing Ureh to be entered at all in KoS.

Funny enough, if anyone is trying to some how re-summon Ureh, it's probably Diablo and the other Primes. They semi-successfully turned it into an open Hell Portal, and getting that back would presumably be a win for them.

Outside of Kingdom of Shadow, a little bit in Moon of Spider (Zayl is our PoV character, and reminisces about getting his hand chopped off a bit) and maybe Storm of Light, I don't recall it ever being mentioned.

As for why Ureh keeps showing up, I think the devs and writers want to do something with the city, but haven't been able to write a cohesive storyline featuring it. It's a cool location, I don't blame em. It kinda fell apart at the end of KoS tho when Kentril destroys the Key of Light (thing that powers the city). And there's the whole 'shows up every 2000 years' thing, which would put the next access point somewhere around 3260 AK (D4 is currently taking place in the 1330's.) Kingdom of Shadow is full of retcons, and didn't line up that great with the lore when it was just Sin War Trilogy, Demonsbane and D2. Now that D3, Immortal, D4, and so on are out, Ureh is one hell of a puzzle.

That said, you've seen what the D4 crew can do with the lore. Nothing is certain, and if they really want to get players into Ureh, they'll find a way.
