New blog post out. And a new hex design.
I can’t tell you how many times I started this post over the past six months. I just couldn’t write anything substantial. March, April, May
The Last Harvest
This weekend is our Allelieweziel celebration. Beginning sundown on October 30, through sundown October 31, Allelieweziel marks the end of the growing season as well as the end of the spiritual year. There is a shift towards more internal work and introspection, as it is the start of the dark half of the year. We release the spirit of our Butzemann that we built back in the spring and breathed life into. This is a time for creating bone broths, dried meats, salted fish, jerky, jams, and other foods that can be stored through the winter. Yes, we have these things available all the time, but our ancestors did not. They had to be creative in how they stored and saved the last of the harvest and how they culled the livestock in preparation for the long colder months.
Allelieweziel is a 12 day celebration ending with Ewicher Yeeger. Holle leads the Hunt, the Parade of Spirits of the dead, collecting them and eventually leading them to the Mill. We honor the hounds in our life on Ewicher Yeeger, our partners in hunting for thousands of years. A time for banishing, we often look at what we need to release in our lives and burn them on a charm ticket with our Butzemann.
As I burn my Butzemann this week, I will be releasing some heavy stuff. Since my mother passed away this past March, I have been shedding the oppression and inner critic voice that she had planted so deeply in my being. This will take the entirety of my effort at Allelieweziel and serious shadow work at Voryuul to accomplish.
What can you let go of this Allelieweziel? What is holding you back or tripping you up? I invite you to explore these ideas when you celebrate this weekend.
es Bedenk
"Es Bedenk is a general term for an ethical value. Urglaawe has eighteen such values that we practice as the core of our beliefs. While one can focus on a single core value, in Urglaawe, we recognize the importance of understand ing that there is an interplay among all of the core values. For example, with out applying wisdom to courage, one could find themselves in a perilous situation. Urglaawe’s philosophies on compassion are derived from ethics originated from the myths and stories of Holle. Compassion is a core value, but now we purposely avoid calling core values virtues because the execution is actually more important than simply sensing them. It’s also important to remember that any value can quickly morph into a vice. As you read through them, consider meditating on each core value. Think about how the other values play into the implementation of it. We tend to use the twelve nights of Yuul, our winter solstice holiday, as the most common time to focus on these core values. Yuul is a natural time of introspection, but you can apply them and meditate on them at any time during the year."
